The Recycling of Mealworm (Tenebrio molitor L.) Frass as Biofertilizer—Effects on Soil Fertility, Biomass Growth and Nitrogen Uptake of Spring Wheat

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment
An important by‐product of insect rearing is the frass, a mixture of excrements, shed exoskeletons, and undigested feed. The recycling of frass as biofertilizer in agriculture is gaining attention as potential alternative to mineral fertilizers. A better

Agronomic Management of Indigenous Mycorrhizas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Many of the advantages conferred to plants by arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) are associated to the ability of AM plants to explore a greater volume of soil through the extraradical mycelium.

Infection Control Practices for Vascular Access Management in Hemodialysis: Results From a Nationwide Survey of Japanese National University Hospitals

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Na⁺/Mg²⁺ ratio: a new physiological trait for salt resistance in faba bean (Vicia faba L.)

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Magnesium plays a vital role in enhancing plant resilience under salt stress. However, its specific function in maintaining ion homeostasis, particularly in regulating sodium uptake, remains unclear.

Using Tomato Recombinant Lines to Improve Plant Tolerance to Stress Combination Through a More Efficient Nitrogen Metabolism

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
The development of plant varieties with a better nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) is a means for modern agriculture to decrease environmental pollution due to an excess of nitrate and to maintain a sufficient net income.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Investigating glycemic potential of rice by unraveling compositional variations in mature grain and starch mobilization patterns during seed germination

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Rice lines with slower starch digestibility provide opportunities in mitigating the global rise in type II diabetes and related non-communicable diseases.

Time-dependent impact of co-matured manure with elemental sulfur and biochar on the soil agro-ecological properties and plant biomass

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Farmyard manure is the most common type of organic fertilizer, and its properties depend mainly on the type of livestock, bedding material and the conditions of fermentation.
