STay tunEd: mutational analysis of the HvSTE1 gene in barley provides insight into the balance between semi-dwarfism and maintenance of grain size in brassinosteroid biosynthesis-dependent manner

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Brassinosteroids (BRs) are steroid phytohormones which regulate various physiological and developmental processes throughout plant life cycle. The BR biosynthesis has been studied mainly in the dicot model species - Arabidopsis thaliana.

Phenology and recruitment of Caryocar costaricense (Caryocaceae), an endemic tree species of Southern Central America

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2009
Basic aspects of the reproductive biology are largely unknown for most tropical tree species, although they are important elements to understand the impacts of anthropogenic activities as logging and forest fragmentation on these populations.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Comprehensive Study of Sexual Reproduction in Nicotiana tabacum Plants Overexpressing H2O2-Producing Enzymes: Superoxide Dismutase and Choline Oxidase

open access: yesPlants
Transgenic tobacco plants with additional enzymes producing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)—superoxide dismutase from Arabisopsis thaliana and choline oxidase from Arthrobacter globiformis—have increased resistance to stress factors, which was demonstrated ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Do tissue carbon and nitrogen limit population growth of weevils introduced to control waterhyacinth at a site in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Waterhyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes(Mart.) Solms), is a serious problem in the Sacramento Delta. Two weevil species (Neochetina bruchi Hustache and N. eichhorniae Warner) have been introduced as biological control agents. The purpose of this study was

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.
