Complete genome sequence and integrated protein localization and interaction map for alfalfa dwarf virus, which combines properties of both cytoplasmic and nuclear plant rhabdoviruses

open access: yesVirology, 2015
We have determined the full-length 14,491-nucleotide genome sequence of a new plant rhabdovirus, alfalfa dwarf virus (ADV). Seven open reading frames (ORFs) were identified in the antigenomic orientation of the negative-sense, single-stranded viral RNA, in the order 3'-N-P-P3-M-G-P6-L-5'.

The Role of Gut Microbiota in Fish Viral Infection: Mechanisms and Microbiota‐Targeted Interventions

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Viral diseases represent one of the major threats to the global aquaculture industry. In recent years, the relationship between gut microbiota and viral infections in fish has garnered increasing attention. The gut microbiota contributes critically to fish health and is involved in antiviral defense through immune regulation, secretion of microbial ...

Taxonomy of the order Mononegavirales : update 2016 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In 2016, the order Mononegavirales was emended through the addition of two new families (Mymonaviridae and Sunviridae), the elevation of the paramyxoviral subfamily Pneumovirinae to family status (Pneumoviridae), the addition of five free-floating genera

In Vitro and In Vivo Toxicity and Antiviral Activity of Rhein Derivatives Against Nervous Necrosis Virus

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Rhein has been demonstrated to exhibit antiviral activity against nervous necrosis virus (NNV). As rhein coexists in plants with various structurally analogous natural derivatives and may acquire improved biochemical properties through chemical modification, this study investigated the potential of several natural and synthetic derivatives for

Novel Betanucleorhabdoviruses Infecting Elderberry (Sambucus nigra L.): Genome Characterization and Genetic Variability

open access: yesPathogens
The genus Betanucleorhabdovirus includes plant viruses with negative sense, non-segmented, single-stranded RNA genomes. Here, we characterized putative novel betanucleorhabdoviruses infecting a medically important plant, elderberry.

Early‐Stage Adhesion Dynamics of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia Virus in Olive Flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 48, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) is a major pathogen in olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) aquaculture, leading to high mortality rates and significant economic losses. Recurrent outbreaks underscore the need for a deeper understanding of the early‐stage adhesion and infection mechanisms of VHSV.

A proposal for a coordinated effort for the determination of brainwide neuroanatomical connectivity in model organisms at a mesoscopic scale [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this era of complete genomes, our knowledge of neuroanatomical circuitry remains surprisingly sparse. Such knowledge is however critical both for basic and clinical research into brain function. Here we advocate for a concerted effort to fill this gap,

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 21, Page 3012-3028, November 2025.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Characterization of Viral Communities and Two Novel Viruses in Symptomatic Tea Plants via Ribodepleted Transcriptome Sequencing

open access: yesInternational Journal of Plant Biology
The tea plant (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) is a globally important crop, yet its cultivation is continually challenged by a range of viral pathogens that can compromise plant health and product quality.
