Wildlife health risk analysis for conservation translocation: A scalable approach illustrated for wader population restoration

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2025.
We present a methodological framework for health risk analysis (disease risk analysis) for conservation translocation that enables the process to be scaled and adapted to the project context. We illustrate its application to two wader (shorebird) population restoration projects with differing translocation plans.

From Bat to Worse: The Pivotal Role of Bats for Viral Zoonosis

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 7, July 2025.
Thanks to a dampened inflammatory innate immune response, various Chiropteran (bat) species frequently carry ‐ without showing symptoms – diverse viruses that can cause severe diseases in humans. The reasons why bats are a pivotal virus reservoir for emerging viral diseases are discussed in this Lilliput contribution.

Densovirus is a mutualistic symbiont of a global crop pest (Helicoverpa armigera) and protects against a baculovirus and Bt biopesticide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Mutualistic associations between symbiotic bacteria and their hosts are common within insect systems. However, viruses are often considered as pathogens even though some have been reported to be beneficial to their hosts.

Mimicking Biochemical Traits with a Synthetic Lipid Nanoparticles SARS‐COV‐2 Model

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2025.
A synthetic virus model developed using lipid nanoparticles, which incorporate encapsulated mRNA and nucleocapsid (N) protein along with surface‐conjugated spike (S) protein, mimics the characteristics of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), allowing for the advancement of diagnostic product assessment.

Intensification of rAAV Production Based on HEK293 Cell Transient Transfection

open access: yesBiotechnology Journal, Volume 20, Issue 6, June 2025.
Graphical Abstract and Lay Summary ABSTRACT Recombinant adeno‐associated virus (rAAV) vectors are widely used in gene therapies, but the rapidly increasing global demand has created a significant challenge for rAAV manufacturing, where production capacity remains a critical bottleneck.

The Family \u3cem\u3eRhabdoviridae\u3c/em\u3e: Mono- and Bipartite Negative-Sense RNA Viruses with Diverse Genome Organization and Common Evolutionary Origins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The family Rhabdoviridae consists of mostly enveloped, bullet-shaped or bacilliform viruses with a negative-sense, single-stranded RNA genome that infect vertebrates, invertebrates or plants.

Characterization, Incidence, and Epidemiology of Two Novel Strawberry Rhabdoviruses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Strawberry is the most important berry crop, grown in most temperate regions around the world. In the early 2000s and in 2012-2013, viral disease devastated strawberry production in California and Florida respectively; causing multimillion dollar losses.

Heritable symbionts in a world of varying temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Heritable microbes represent an important component of the biology, ecology and evolution of many plants, animals and fungi, acting as both parasites and partners. In this review, we examine how heritable symbiont–host interactions may alter host thermal

J Gen Virol [PDF]

open access: yes
Sunguru virus (SUNV), a novel virus belonging to the highly diverse Rhabdoviridae family, was isolated from a domestic chicken in the district of Arua, Uganda, in 2011. This is the first documented isolation of a rhabdovirus from a chicken.

Viral Takeover of the Host Ubiquitin System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Like the other more well-characterized post-translational modifications (phosphorylation, methylation, acetylation, acylation, etc.), the attachment of the 76 amino acid ubiquitin (Ub) protein to substrates has been shown to govern countless cellular ...
