Atomic‐Scale Light Coupling Control in Ultrathin Photonic Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin photonic nanomembranes provide atomic‐scale control over the coupling between incident light and high‐Q photonic modes, enabling angstrom‐level resonance tuning and strong field confinement. When integrated with TMD monolayers, they further yield enhanced light–matter interactions, offering a versatile platform for advancing quantum photonics,

Appearance and Persistence of Activity in Soil Extracts Increasing Root Rot of American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) by Ilyonectria mors-panacis

open access: yesSoil Systems
A previous report showed that methanol extracts from soil collected one year after harvesting American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) contained activity that increased root rot caused by Ilyonectria mors-panacis.

The relationship between feed efficiency and the circadian profile of blood plasma analytes measured in beef heifers at different physiological stages

open access: yesAnimal, 2014
The characterization of blood metabolite concentrations over the circadian period and across physiological stages is important for understanding the biological basis of feed efficiency, and may culminate in indirect methods for assessing feed efficiency.

Heathland Restoration Techniques: Ecological Consequences for Plant-Soil and Plant-Animal Interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We compare the soil and plant community development during heathland restoration on improved farmland when achieved through soil stripping with that achieved through soil acidification.

An Engineered Living Material With Pro‐Angiogenic Activity Inducible by Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
NIR‐responsive engineered living materials (ELMs) for controlled angiogenesis: Near‐infrared (800 nm) light activates engineered probiotic bacteria within alginate‐based living materials to secrete a blood vessel‐regenerating protein. The released protein promotes pro‐angiogenic effects in endothelial networks and chick chorioallantoic membranes.

Comparison of Leafhopper Species Complexes in the Ground Cover of Sprayed and Unsprayed Peach Orchards in Michigan (Homoptera: Cicadellldae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Two Michigan peach orchards were sampled for leafhoppers using a fixed-area ground sampling device attached to a D-vac®. Absolute abundance estimates indicated that routine tree insecticide applications greatly depressed leafhopper populations. This, and

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.

Poly(Butylene Adipate‐Co‐Terephthalate)/Silane‐Treated Wollastonite‐Based Blown Film for Sustainable Packaging Application: Studying the Impact of Uniaxial Stretching on the Final Properties

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering
The demand for biodegradable packaging is rising due to plastic pollution corncerns. This study develops biodegradable composites based on poly (butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT) and silane‐treated wollastonite (S‐W) at two concentrations (15 and
