RNA interference in crop protection: opportunities and challenges during the transition to commercialization

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 7, Page 5971-5986, July 2026.
RNA interference (RNAi) technologies, host‐induced gene silencing (HIGS) and spray‐induced gene silencing (SIGS), potentially offer sustainable crop protection. However, efficacy, costs, regulatory clarity, and socio‐environmental impacts require further evaluation for broader use.

Plantas medicinais: cura segura? Medicinal plants: safe cure?

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2005
This paper reviews the recent literature on synergism, adulteration and risks of using medicinal plants. The use of copaiba and sacaca plants as well as their adulteration and side effects, are also described. In addition, the new regulations on phytotherapeutic registration in Brazil and Europe are discussed.

Seed‐Associated Trichoderma and Their Potential as Biocontrol Agents Against Plant Diseases

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 7, July 2026.
Trichoderma is a genus of beneficial fungi widely used in agriculture. Over 2 years of routine seed health analyses, we investigated the diversity of seed‐borne Trichoderma strains associated with seeds from 32 cultivated plant species. We assessed their mycoparasitic activity and their potential for disease suppression and plant growth promotion ...

Ocorrência de quimiotipos em Talauma ovata, uma planta medicinal brasileira

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Plantas Medicinais, 2005
Talauma ovata St. Hil. (Magnoliaceae) is a big tree, which the trunk bark has been used in folk medicine against fever. Chemical analysis of nine populations showed the occurrence of two chemotypes in well-defined geographic localization. The first chemotype is characterized by neolignans and is found in latitude bellow 20°S.

The promise of digital herbarium specimens in large‐scale phenology research

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 2, Page 617-624, July 2026.
Summary The online mobilization of herbaria has made tens of millions of specimens digitally available, revolutionizing investigations of phenology and plant responses to climate change. We identify two main themes associated with this growing body of research and highlight a selection of recent publications exemplifying: investigating phenology at ...

Three closely linked X‐chromosomal genes potentially control sex determination in Cannabis sativa

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 1, Page 505-522, July 2026.
Summary Sex determination mechanisms in dioecious plants remain poorly understood yet offer an excellent model system to study genetic changes underlying morphological evolution. We investigated the genetic basis of sex determination in Cannabis sativa, combining quantitative trait locus mapping in a segregating population, comparative transcriptomics ...

Structural Elucidation and Engineering of the (S)‐scoulerine 2‐O‐Methyltransferase Enabling Regioselective Epiberberine Biosynthesis in Coptis chinensis

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 7, Page 4528-4545, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Protoberberine alkaloids are a characteristic group of natural products in Coptis plants known for their notable pharmacological activities. However, the structural similarity and the substrate promiscuity of their biosynthetic enzymes have left the precise synthetic pathways remain unclarified, posing challenges to regulate product formation.
