Wild herbivores enhance resistance to invasion by exotic cacti in an African savanna
Our experimental and observational findings that wild herbivores confer resistance to invasion by exotic cacti add to evidence that conserving and restoring native herbivore assemblages (particularly megaherbivores) can increase community resistance to plant invasions. Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract One of the suggested mechanisms behind the success of non‐native plants in recipient ecosystems is competition avoidance with natives by means of different resource‐use strategies, such as deeper water uptake under dry conditions.

Consensus and controversy in the discipline of invasion science
Abstract Approaches, values, and perceptions in invasion science are highly dynamic, and like in other disciplines, views among different people can diverge. This has led to debate in the field specifically surrounding the core themes of values, management, impacts, and terminology.

Pine invasion reduced native species abundance, plant cover, richness and diversity, with an increase over time since invasion. Species diversity and richness were lower in the managed area than in the area that had not been invaded. Restoration activities are therefore required to increase native species diversity.

Abstract Georeferenced biological data of species distributions, abundances or traits are critical for ecological and evolutionary research. However, the accuracy (true vs. false records) and biogeographical status (native vs. alien) of individual georeferenced records are often unclear, which limits their use in species distribution modelling ...

Interannual evaluation of the regenerative strategies of the exotic invasive species Gleditsia triacanthos compared with native Acacia aroma in the Chaco Serrano Woodland of Cordoba (Argentina) [PDF]
It has been proposed that exotic species, compared with native ones, differed in certain characteristics that may favor their expansion. The regenerative characteristics of exotic species may vary among reproductive seasons, modifying the patterns ...
