Neurochemical Endpoints to Inform Early‐Stage Trials of Spinocerebellar Ataxia 2 and 3 in a Multisite Setting

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neurochemical levels measured by brain MR spectroscopy (MRS) have been proposed as endpoints for clinical trials in early‐stage spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) trials. We tested their trial‐readiness by quantifying neurochemicals in three affected brain regions in early‐stage cohorts of SCA2 and SCA3, examining their reproducibility in ...

Bamboo charcoal application altered the mineralization process of soil organic carbon in different succession stages of karst forest land

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
Introduction: As a soil amendment, Bamboo charcoal helps to contributes to the improvement of soil carbon sequestration, but its effect on the accumulation and transformation of different soil organic carbon in soil of karst forests is not clear. Methods:

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

Enhanced CO2 Response and Aging‐Related Dynamics Drive a Greater Leaf Area Index Increase in China's Planted Forests in Comparison to Natural Forests

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
China's forests have experienced a notable increase in leaf area, driven by planted forest expansion and natural forest conservation. However, how planted and natural forests respond differently to environmental changes remains unclear.

Integration of Landsat–Sentinel Time Series and Flowering Phenology for Mapping Planted Forests and Distinguishing Tree Crops

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Planted forests are increasingly promoted to meet rising demand for forest products and restore degraded lands, but their extent and ecological implications are often misrepresented because tree crops (e.g., orchards, plantation agriculture) exhibit ...

The structure and soil characteristics of a Pinus tabuliformis planted forest after 60 years of natural development in North China

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 2017
This study evaluated the transformation of a Carrière forest into a near-natural forest after 60 years of natural development. The structure and soil characteristics of planted forest, the near-natural forest (coniferous-broadleaved mixed forest ...

Litter Accumulation in a Eucalyptus grandis Plantation, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

open access: yesFloresta e Ambiente, 2020
This study aimed at quantifying the accumulation of litter in formative compartments (bark, branches, leaves, and miscellaneous) above the soil in a 23-year-old Eucalyptus grandis plantation, located on the campus of the Universidade Federal de Santa ...

The Transition of Forest Cover and Its Cultural Values in Shrine/Temple Forests in the Mountainous and Foothill Areas of Kyoto City: A Study Based on Topographic Maps and Aerial Photos

open access: yesLand, 2023
There is growing interest in the diverse roles of forests in addressing climate change and biodiversity goals. Recent studies have indicated a disregard for the cultural values of forests that have been formed in close association with human activities ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
