The electrical power companies have specified what features are desired for attractive power plants, with regard to economics, regulatory simplicity, and public acceptance. The plants should achieve high availability, and should have maintenance procedures that can be performed in a few months, which is very difficult for large fusion reactors.

This chapter presents the plant system design of the Super LWR. Since the once-through direct steam cycle is employed, the plant system becomes simple and compact. The system components and configuration are summarized. Main components involving the containment, reactor pressure vessel, internals, turbines, and steam lines are presented.
