Pitting Corrosion Behaviour of Aluminium in Water Desalination Plants
Desalination, 1989Abstract The pitting corrosion of aluminium in water containing pitting corrosion agents and metal cations at moderately high temperatures has been investigated by electrochemical and surface analysis methods. Heat pretreatment ameliorated the resistance to pitting corrosion and overcame the aggressive effect of Cl−.

Foraging pits, litter and plant germination in an arid shrubland
Journal of Arid Environments, 2010Abstract Many animals create soil surface depressions (pits) while foraging for subterranean resources. Foraging pits typically fill with litter, organic debris and seed, retain moisture, and become hotspots for plant germination. This study aimed to examine whether artificial foraging pits, which mimic those created by Greater bilbies (Macrotis ...

Pitting Corrosion Problems of Stainless Steels in a PTA Plant
CORROSION 2007, 2007Abstract Severe pitting corrosion problems occurred in a Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) production plant. The materials of construction of the various vessels, columns, and piping that are of concern are 316L and 2205-Duplex stainless steels.

Pitting of 316L stainless steel in flare piping of a petrochemical plant
Engineering Failure Analysis, 2010Abstract Pitting was observed on a 6-in. (15 cm) flare piping made of stainless steel ASTM A312 Gr. Tp 316L, prior going into service in a petrochemical plant. The pits were in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) and fusion zone (FZ) boundary of the pipe seam welds. The FZ was also uniformly corroded.

To find out the optimum and economic viable planting material and seed rate in pit method of planting in sugar- cane ( Saccharum spp.), a field experiment was conducted during spring season of 2007-08 and 2008-09 at Karnal. Experiment consisting of fourteen treatments (two budded setts and pre-germinated cane settlings planted in pits @ 12,15,18,21 and

Natural plant colonization of borrow pits in boreal forest highlands of eastern Canada
Botany, 2011Plant colonization after gravel extraction for road construction is slow and is often considered to be primary succession. The goal of this study was to identify the plant communities that spontaneously colonized borrow pits located in boreal climate zones and to assess how environmental variables influenced this colonization process.

Early growth of pigeonpea under open-pit planting and restricted weeding in semiarid Zimbabwe
Agroforestry Systems, 1998Simple and efficient tree-establishment methods are a key to the success of agroforestry technologies under limited-resource conditions. An experiment was conducted to test the effect of open pit planting and reduced weeding on soil moisture content and growth of pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.). The results indicated that open-pit planting might
