Relative dentin and enamel abrasivity of charcoal toothpastes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dental Hygiene, Volume 21, Issue 1, Page 149-156, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Objectives Very little data are known about charcoal toothpastes. The aim of this study was to counteract the missing data by determining the relative dentin abrasivity (RDA) and relative enamel abrasivity (REA) values of charcoal toothpastes.

Bifurcation for a free boundary problem modeling a small arterial plaque [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Atherosclerosis, hardening of the arteries, originates from small plaque in the arteries; it is a major cause of disability and premature death in the United States and worldwide. In this paper, we study the bifurcation of a highly nonlinear and highly coupled PDE model describing the growth of arterial plaque in the early stage of atherosclerosis. The

Pulsatile non-newtonian blood flow in image-based models of carotid bifurcation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Present hemodynamical study is motivated by the ongoing clinical research at the University Hospital in Pilsen, Czech Republic. On the basis of provided CT scans, several carotid artery models were reconstructed and used for this numerical study of ...

Effects of a 4‐week free‐sugar avoidance during periodontal therapy: An explorative randomized controlled clinical trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study investigated the effect of a 4‐week free‐sugar avoidance on periodontal parameters during periodontal therapy. Methods Twenty‐one patients with untreated periodontitis and daily free‐sugar intake were allocated to a sugar avoidance group (SAG) and a control group (CG).

Emergence of bullous pemphigoid under treatment of mycosis fungoides with mogamulizumab

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common cutaneous T cell lymphoma. Since 2018, mogamulizumab, an antibody directed to to the chemokine receptor CCR4, is licensed for the treatment of MF. Treatment with mogamulizumab is associated with the precipiation of different types of skin rashes summarized as mogamulizumab‐associated rash.

A mathematical model for smooth muscle cell phenotype switching in atherosclerotic plaque [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) play a fundamental role in the development of atherosclerotic plaques. SMCs may ingest lipids in a similar way to monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs) in the plaque. This can stimulate SMCs to undergo a phenotypic switch towards a macrophage-like phenotype.

Efficient Parallel Simulation of Atherosclerotic Plaque Formation Using Higher Order Discontinuous Galerkin Schemes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
The compact Discontinuous Galerkin 2 (CDG2) method was successfully tested for elliptic problems, scalar convection-diffusion equations and compressible Navier-Stokes equations. In this paper we use the newly developed DG method to solve a mathematical model for early stages of atherosclerotic plaque formation.

Contact Angle Measurement of Dental Restorative Materials by Drop Profile Image Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The capability of initial microbial adhesion to dental restorative composites surface is influenced by the surface wettability of the materials. The common method to evaluate surface wettability of materials is contact angle measurement.
