The combined effects of ultrasound and plasma-activated water on microbial inactivation and quality attributes of crayfish during refrigerated storage

open access: yesUltrasonics sonochemistry, 2023
Highlights • UP treatment was effective in microbial decontamination of crayfish.• The applied treatments suppressed the protein oxidation during storage.• UP treatment retarded the flavor and textural deterioration of crayfish.• UP treatment reduced the

Group V Phospholipase A2 Induces Leukotriene Biosynthesis in Human Neutrophils through the Activation of Group IVA Phospholipase A2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We reported previously that exogenously added human group V phospholipase A2 (hVPLA2) could elicit leukotriene B4 (LTB4) biosynthesis in human neutrophils (Han, S. K., Kim, K. P., Koduri, R., Bittova, L., Munoz, N. M., Leff, A. R., Wilton, D. C., Gelb, M.

Green Technology for Pork Loin Wet Curing—Unconventional Use of Cow and Soy Milk Treated with Non-Thermal Atmospheric Plasma

open access: yesFoods, 2022
This study was conducted to evaluate the possibility of using plasma-activated cow and soy milk powders as a substitute for sodium nitrite for wet curing of pork meat (m. longissimus thoracis et lumborum).

The antimicrobial effects of mist spraying and immersion on beef samples with plasma-activated water.

open access: yesMeat Science, 2023
The use of plasma-activated water (PAW) as an antimicrobial agent to inactivate Salmonella Typhimurium on chilled beef during meat washing was evaluated. Two meat washing methods, spraying and immersion, were evaluated at contact times of 15, 30 and 60 s

Effects of ultrasound-assisted plasma-activated water pretreatment combined with electrohydrodynamics on drying characteristics, active ingredients and volatile components of yam (Dioscorea opposita)

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
This paper explores the effect of ultrasound (US) assisted plasma-activated water (PAW) or deionized water (DW) pretreatment combined with electrohydrodynamics (EHD) on the drying of yam.

Inhibition of corrosion causing Pseudomonas aeruginosa using plasma-activated water

open access: yesJournal of Applied Microbiology, 2022
Abstract Aims The cost of Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) significantly affects a wide range of sectors. This study aims to assess the efficiency of a novel technology based on the use of plasma-activated water (PAW) in inhibiting corrosion caused by bacteria.

Susceptibility and transcriptomic response to plasma-activated water of Listeria monocytogenes planktonic and sessile cells.

open access: yesFood microbiology, 2023
Plasma-Activated Water (PAW) was generated from tap water using a surface dielectric barrier discharge at different discharge power (26 and 36 W) and activation time (5 and 30 min).

Metformin reverses development of pulmonary hypertension via aromatase inhibition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Females are more susceptible to pulmonary arterial hypertension than males, although the reasons remain unclear. The hypoglycemic drug, metformin, is reported to have multiple actions, including the inhibition of aromatase and stimulation of AMP ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
