Overview of plasma-facing materials and components for EAST

Physica Scripta, 2007
By the end of September 2006, the engineering commissioning of the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) was completed and the first H2 plasma was achieved with stainless steel as the plasma-facing material (PFM). In the following phases, with gradual increase in the heating power, the EAST divertor targets have to handle expected heat ...

Effects of runaway electrons on plasma facing components

Fusion Engineering and Design, 1994
Abstract The electron gamma shower code EGS4 was applied to the simulation of energy deposition due to runaway electrons in the plasma facing components of tokamaks. By taking into account the magnetic field, we calculated the energy deposition in the layers of carbon and molybdenum irradiated by electrons with energies from 10 to 300 MeV and an ...

Development of doped graphites for plasma-facing components

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2001
Doping of carbon leads to a reduction of chemical erosion. This reduction is more effective if dopants are in the form of sub-μm precipitates with a very homogeneous distribution. However, dopants should not degrade but rather improve the thermal conductivity of graphite.

Beryllium application in ITER plasma facing components

Fusion Engineering and Design, 1997
Abstract Beryllium is a candidate armour material for the in-vessel components of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), namely the primary first wall, the limiter, the baffle and the divertor. However, a number of issues arising from the performance requirements of the ITER plasma facing components (PFCs) must be addressed to ...

Metallic materials as plasma facing components — A review

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1988
Abstract The design and fabrication of suitable plasma-facing components for fusion devices is a difficult task with often conflicting requirements. Most operating devices utilize stainless steel as the first wall material and graphite for the main limiters.

Tool Prototypes for Replacing the Plasma Facing Components

2000
The divertor of ITER fusion reactor consists of cassettes, which are designed to be replaced and maintenanced regularly. For maintenance, the cassettes are transported into a hot cell. In the hot cell, maintenance operations include cleaning and careful measuring of the cassette and replacing of three Plasma Facing Components.
