Fluctuation of arc plasma in arc plasma torch with multiple cathodes*

Chinese Physics B, 2019
Fluctuation phenomena commonly exist in arc plasmas, limiting the application of this technology. In this paper, we report an investigation of fluctuations of arc plasmas in an arc plasma torch with multiple cathodes. Time-resolved images of the plasma column and anode arc roots are captured.

The Plasma Arc

1972
Plasma is a gaseous cloud composed of free electrons, positive ions, neutral atoms and molecules. It has been referred to as “the 4th state of matter” because of its unique properties. Its behavior involves complex interactions between electromagnetic and mechanical forces.

Measurements of Welding Arcs and Plasma Arcs

1991
Welding and plasma arcs are among the most powerful emitters of optical radiation. The temperature of welding and plasma arcs is extremely high and the ultraviolet output is therefore potentially hazardous. As is well known the visible radiation emitted by these arcs is blinding, and several cases of severe retinal burns are known to have caused ...

Plasma arc welding: a mathematical model of the arc

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1994
A number of models of plasma arc welding have been constructed, including some that describe the arc itself. Relatively few rely solely on the physics of a plasma arc and the associated fluid dynamics for construction of mathematical models; for the most part they use a mixture of empirical results and basic physical principles.

Modeling of arc force in plasma arc welding

Transactions of Tianjin University, 2008
A three-dimensional mathematical model for the transferred-type argon arc was developed to describe arc force on the anode surface. The software ANSYS was employed to solve the model. The model includes a part of torch and tungsten electrode to achieve more reasonable results. The arc temperature and flow fields were derived.
