Arc Plasma Propagation and Arc Current Profiles [PDF]
When electrical arcs occur in space, a plasma expands away from the arc-site, neutralizing adjacent surfaces (a current), and causing a current to be produced at the arc-site (source of neutralization current). The speed of this plasma expansion depends on the plasma species, which in turn depend on the ionizable materials near the initial ...

Advances in inductively-coupled-plasma heaters for aerothermal testing of thermal-protection systems
Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) heaters generate high-enthalpy and ultra-clean plasma flows through electromagnetic coupling discharge, showing significant value in the research of thermal protection materials (TPMs) for hypersonic vehicles.

Measurement of velocity and diameter of tungsten particles produced by arcing using high-speed video
Arcing is a mechanism of dust production and erosion in fusion devices. The masses and velocities of tungsten (W) particles produced by arcing is of special interest given that W is used as wall material in current experimental devices and is planned for

Model and simulation investigation of the whole process of high-current vacuum arc burning
With the development of the power industry and the increase in the capacity of power systems, vacuum switches have been developed rapidly. The distribution characteristics of the vacuum arc can reflect the working conditions of the vacuum switch.

Ionization in the plasma of a copper arc
From the relative intensities of arc and spark lines observed in a d-c arc in air between copper electrodes, the degree of ionization of eleven elements added to the copper has been determined. With the aid of Saha’s ionization equation, the electron density in the arc was calculated to be 2.4×10(14) cm(−3). Partition functions for atoms and ions of 29

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
