Main Features of Plasma Control
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2008In the recent years Plasma Control has always increased his importance in any advanced experiment. It is now clear that ITER will not be able to operate without a quite advanced and sophisticated control apparatus. Necessarily this system will have to integrate several different aspects of the Plasma behavior.

Plasma boundary control in tokamaks
42nd IEEE International Conference on Decision and Control (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37475), 2004Plasma MHD equilibrium and stability play a key role in tokamak engineering since they have far reaching consequences in the design and operation of present and future fusion devices. Here the problem of the control of the plasma boundary is addressed and solved by a two-steps procedure.

Plasma and the controlled thermonuclear reaction
Reviews of Modern Physics, 1979The choice of theme for this Nobel lecture presents some difficulty for me. Usually the lecture is connected with work recognized by the prize. In my case, the prize was awarded for work in low-temperature physics, at temperatures of liquid helium, a few degrees above absolute zero.

Magnetic Control of Tokamak Plasmas
2008The problem of confining a plasma, with sufficiently high density and temperature, is of crucial importance if nuclear fusion is to be made usable as a form of power generation. Tokamaks – devices with a toroidal geometry – are among the most popular candidates by which such confinement can be achieved.

Proceedings. 2005 International Conference Physics and Control, 2005., 2006
This paper discusses and solves problems in the present-day design of the plasma control system in tokamak. The most widespread approach to the design of the magnetic plasma control involves: (i) plasma static equilibrium calculations, (ii) linear models derivation, (iii) synthesis of the controllers for the feedback control of plasma parameters, (iv ...

Joint European Torus (JET) discharges have plasma currents up to 6 MA and toroidal fields up to 4 T. The plasma parameters during discharges are determined by the action of a number of distinct systems. These systems can be divided into three groups; the toroidal and poloidal field systems; the fuelling systems; and the additional heating systems.

Thermal plasma torches are energy-intensive devices that operate at temperatures unreachable by conventional combustion or partial oxidation processes. Plasma gasification reactors for biomass are relatively easy to control, since electric power can be varied quickly tomaintain conditions of the biomass conversion process.

Plasma-controlled chemistry in plasma reforming of methane
International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2010Plasma is receiving attention as a prospective tool for the reforming process of obtaining synthesis gas and hydrogen. Although many reports on plasma-induced reforming have been introduced, detailed correlations between the reaction paths and plasma parameters remain unclear.

This paper presents the main lessons that can be learned from two decades of Plasma Control development experience. It will present the general architectural choices and will provide examples from key systems, and, more importantly, will highlight the plasma operation requirements that have driven the developments.

Plasmas for aerodynamic control
Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2010With the continued objective of increasing aircraft performances whilst reducing the environmental impact, study is being carried out to find innovative solutions to influence air flow using simple actuators. Among the innovative solutions, the use of plasma technologies has shown itself to be very promising from both a performance point of view and in
