Automatic identification of edge localized modes in the DIII-D tokamak

open access: yesAPL Machine Learning, 2023
Fusion power production in tokamaks uses discharge configurations that risk producing strong type I edge localized modes. The largest of these modes will likely increase impurities in the plasma and potentially damage plasma facing components, such as ...

Intermittent transport in edge plasmas

open access: yes, 2004
The properties of low-frequency convective fluctuations and transport are investigated for the boundary region of magnetized plasmas. We employ a two-dimensional fluid model for the evolution of the global plasma quantities in a geometry and with parameters relevant to the scrape-off layer of confined toroidal plasmas.

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Effect of heating scheme on SOL width in DIII-D and EAST

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
Joint DIII-D/EAST experiments in the radio-frequency (RF) heated H-mode scheme with comparison to that of neutral beam (NB) heated H-mode scheme were carried out on DIII-D and EAST under similar conditions to examine the effect of heating scheme on ...

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Surface roughness effects on plasma near a divertor plate and local impact angle

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
The impact of rough surface topography on the electric potential and electric field is generally neglected due to the small scale of surface roughness compared to the width of the plasma sheath.

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Experimental Study of Plasma Actuator Effects on Flow Field Separation Bubble around Blunt Flat Plate

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2016
In this paper, the air flow around a blunt flat plate with a rounded leading edge has been experimentally examined with and without the presence of a plasma actuator. Tests have been conducted with Reynolds numbers ranging from 104 to 105.

New Tokamak Plasma Confinement Regime Realized by Utilizing Small Magnetic Perturbations in the EAST Tokamak

open access: yesPRX Energy
Achieving sustained high plasma confinement both in the core and at the edge, without crashes due to edge instabilities, is highly desirable for efficient fusion energy production in a tokamak device.
