Porosity in plasma electrolytic oxide coatings

Acta Materialia, 2006
Abstract Plasma electrolytic oxide coatings are generally assumed to be almost fully dense. However, evidence is presented here for the presence of sub-micrometre, surface-connected porosity in such coatings, on aluminium alloys, at levels of the order of 20%.

Plasma electrolytic oxide coatings on silumin for oxidation CO

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017
Some catalysts of CO oxidation on silumin alloy AK12M2, used for the manufacture of pistons for Russian cars were investigated. The catalysts were prepared by the method of plasma electrolytic oxidation of silumin in electrolytes of various compositions with further activation by the salts Ce, Cu, Co, Ni, Mn and Al. The catalytic tests were carried out

The effects of plasma electrolytically oxidized NiTi on in vitro endothelialization

Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, 2016
The role of biomaterials surface in controlling the interfacial biological events leading to implant integration is of key importance. In this study, the effects of NiTi surfaces treated by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) have been investigated.

Surface Charge at the Oxide/Electrolyte Interface: Toward Optimization of Electrolyte Composition for Treatment of Aluminum and Magnesium by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation

Langmuir, 2016
Controlling microdischarges in plasma electrolytic oxidation is of great importance in order to optimize coating quality. The present study highlights the relationship between the polarity at which breakdown occurs and the electrolyte pH as compared with the isoelectric point (IEP).

Effects of reagent purity on plasma electrolytic oxidation of titanium in an aluminate–phosphate electrolyte

Transactions of the IMF, 2016
The effect of reagent purity on AC plasma electrolytic oxidation of titanium in aluminate-phosphatebased electrolytes has been studied under constant rms current conditions. The resultant coatings were examined by high-resolution electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, revealing rutile, Al2TiO5, α-Al2O3 and γ-Al2O3, with an aluminium-enriched outer ...

THE IMPACT OF PLASMA-ELECTROLYTIC OXIDATION OF TITANIUM

European International Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Management Studies
Titanium is one of the most promising structural materials used in the manufacture of implants in orthopedics and dentistry. This material is characterized by low density, low modulus of elasticity, good formability, hardness similar to tooth enamel, biocompatibility with living tissues, and ...
