Development of thermal control coatings on AA7075 by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021
Abstract The thermal control coating was produced on AA7075 by pulsed DC plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process in an aqueous electrolyte containing 3 g/l sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and 6 g/l potassium hydroxide (KOH) along with 4 g/l nanoparticles of Cupric oxide (CuO) or Titanium oxide (TiO2) or CuO and TiO2 with equal mass.

Effect of cathodic micro-discharges on oxide growth during plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO)

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2015
Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of magnesium alloy is performed in NH4F and alkaline-silicate electrolytes within various waveforms of bipolar current pulses to investigate the role of the cathodic bias on both the growth mechanism of PEO layers and the behavior of micro-discharges.

Spectroscopic and real-time imaging investigation of tantalum plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO)

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2011
Abstract We present the results of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of tantalum in 12-tungstosilicic acid at 70 mA/cm 2 . For the characterization real-time imaging and optical emission spectroscopy (OES) were used. It has been detected that relatively small microdischarges (cross-sectional area  2 ) are dominant throughout the PEO, while the ...

Tailored aluminium oxide layers by bipolar current adjustment in the Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) process

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2007
The plasma electrolytic oxidation process of aluminium alloys is investigated for two different current waveforms. It is shown that particular conditions may be established which strongly reduce the arcing that usually cause detrimental defects in the oxide layer for treatment time greater than typically 40–50 min.

A novel titanium implant surface modification by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) preventing tendon adhesion

Materials Science and Engineering: C, 2021
Titanium is one of the most commonly used materials for implants in trauma applications due to its low density, high corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. Nevertheless, there is still a need for improved surface modifications of Titanium, in order to change surface properties such as wettability, antibacterial properties or tissue attachment.

An investigation of microstructure evolution for plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coated Al in an alkaline silicate electrolyte

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2018
Abstract In the current investigation, plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) ceramic coatings on Al are galvanostatically synthesized at various processing stages in an alkaline silicate system. The resultant coatings are systematically surveyed in terms of the following respects: the applied voltage and surface sparking evolution over the studied ...

The effects of anion deposition and negative pulse on the behaviours of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO)—A systematic study of the PEO of a Zirlo alloy in aluminate electrolytes

Electrochimica Acta, 2017
Abstract Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) of a Zirlo alloy has been carried out under pulsed bipolar and pulsed unipolar regimes in aluminate electrolytes with the aim to promote a better understanding of the coating formation mechanisms and the role of negative pulse.

Current density effects on plasma emission during plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) on AZ91D-magnesium alloy

Modern Physics Letters B, 2020
The effect of bipolar pulse mode current ratio (anodic to cathodic) on plasma emission behavior was investigated in Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) on AZ91D Mg-Alloy. Two cases of current ratio as 1.20 and 0.88 were applied to the sample. Plasma emission behavior was studied using plasma images and plasma emission measured by photodetector and ...

Corrosion properties of plasma electrolytic oxidation coatings on an aluminium alloy – The effect of the PEO process stage

Materials Chemistry and Physics, 2015
Abstract Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings were grown on an aluminium alloy substrate using different processing parameters which enabled samples to be coated to different stages of the PEO process. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear polarization resistance (LPR) techniques were employed to investigate the impedance ...
