Microinstabilities in the plasma focus

Physics Letters A, 1977
Abstract Experimentally observed suprathermal microwave emission correlated to soft X-rays emitted with high anisotropy are indicating the existence of current driven microinstabilities in the plasma focus.

The Plasma Focus

1982
The name Plasma Focus (PF) has been bestowed upon a development of the fast dynamic Z-pinch characterized by a new type of electrode configuration which lends itself to the production of a non-cylindrical implosion of the current sheath. It produces a short lived, rather dense plasma, whose properties are dominated by the occurrence of macroscopic and ...

Computational simulation of plasma focus

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2001
The movement and shaping of the plasma sheet in a plasma focus is modeled by means of finite elements. The sheet is represented by conical segments carrying mass, internal energy and momentum. The Lorentz force accelerates each element in its normal direction, which leads to the continuous reshaping of the sheet.

Generation of compact plasma objects in plasma focus discharge

EPL (Europhysics Letters), 2020
This paper provides the results of studies of plasma flows generated in the plasma focus facility PF-1000U. Regimes are found, involving the formation of compact plasma objects propagating in the variable-density background environment to the distances exceeding the initial crosswise dimensions of these objects by dozens of times.

Comparison of plasma focus calculations

The Physics of Fluids, 1982
A simple model for the current history of plasma focus experiments is presented. The presence of a leak current which does not pass through the plasma sheath is allowed. Results are found to compare quite well with those of much more sophisticated two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic calculations.

Types of fresh plasma with focus on therapeutic plasma exchange

Transfusion and Apheresis Science, 2019
Among blood components for transfusion, plasma for direct therapeutic use is one which has the most diverse presentations as it can either be a labile (fresh) component or a drug when industrially manufactured after pooling of thousands of individual plasma collections.

15. Dense Plasma Focus

1971
Publisher Summary This chapter describes the dense plasma focus. Dense plasma focus (DPF) is a plasma discharge with plasma densities n > l0 l9 /cm 3 and temperatures of a few kilo electron volts lasting 100 to 150 nsec. The focus is conjectured to be a short but finite two-dimensional z -pinch forming near or at the end of a coaxial plasma ...

Investigation of Plasma Facing Components in Plasma Focus Operation

Journal of Fusion Energy, 2006
Both aspects of the plasma–wall interactions, counter effect of plasma and materials, have been considered in our experiments. The AEOI plasma focus, Dena, has Filippov-type electrodes. The experimental results verify that neutron production increases using tungsten as an anode insert material, compared to the copper one. The experiments show decrement

Plasma dynamics from a two-gun plasma focus device

IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, 2003
The Mather-type two-gun plasma focus device has a pair of cylindrical electrodes connected head to head. Their separation can be altered, whereas the electrode length remains unchanged. This feature allows for the study of the interaction between two plasma foci at the same operational parameters (1520 mu F, 19 kV).

A Plasma Focus Interrupting Switch

1984
The feasibility of using a dense plasma focus (DPF) as a current interrupting device has been investigated. Specifically, a 34-kJ, Mather-type DPF was modified to accept a third electrode so that a discharge could be created between this electrode and the center electrode of the DPF by a 10-kJ inductive energy storage circuit.
