Nanophotonics for plasma heating

Nature Photonics, 2013
Vertically aligned nanowires on a solid surface in conjunction with table-top lasers create an ultrahigh-energy-density plasma with extremely high ionization in the laboratory.

Semicollisional heat flux in laser heated plasmas

Physics of Plasmas, 2002
The semicollisional transport theory in laser heated plasmas is presented. The Fokker–Planck equation that includes the electron–electron interaction up to the first anisotropy is solved numerically for arbitrary collisionality range. The inverse bremsstrahlung absorption of the laser energy by the electrons is taken into account.

FPD Plasma Heating Systems

Fusion Technology, 1985
Tandem mirror devices rely on a number of plasma heating systems to create and maintain potential and density profiles which axially confine the central cell and provide MHD stability. The Fusion Power Demonstrator (FPD) tandem mirror study was carried out in three stages, each facility was configured with a slightly different mission and set of ...

The plasma-heated thyratron

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1979
An instant-starting hydrogen thyratron is described which incorporates a cathode requiring no warmup time, no standby power, and no separate heater power supply. Starting cold, time jitter is less than 1 ns; anode delay time is less than200 ns; and the 0-30-s anode delay time drift is less than 100 ns.

Plasma Melting and Heating

2008
Abstract Plasma melting is a material-processing technique in which the heat of a thermal plasma is used to melt a material. This article discusses the two typical design principles of plasma torches in the transferred mode: the tungsten tip design and the hollow copper electrode design.

Coronal plasma heating problem

Geomagnetism and Aeronomy, 2011
The problem of coronal plasma heating is discussed based on coronal magnetic loop heating. The radiation loss in coronal plasma is very high; therefore, it is necessary that rather powerful heating sources exist in this plasma in order to maintain the corona in a quasistationary state.
