Diocotron instability in ultracold plasma
Physical Review EWe present the results of the molecular dynamics simulation of ultracold Xe plasma in constant homogeneous crossed electric and magnetic fields. A Simulation shows that there are two electron loss mechanisms. The first one is that the initial electron cloud splits into two lobes. The second one is that electrons leave the plasma as a beam.

Beam-plasma instability in an inhomogeneous plasma
The Physics of Fluids, 1974Unstable waves (ω > ωce) are observed to be localized in the axial gradient of a beam-produced plasma. This results from an increase of phase velocity due to the gradient, which permits Landau damping by the beam.

Gravitational Instability of a Magnetized Plasma
Physical Review Letters, 1961The instability of a plasma supported under gravity by a magnetic field is considered in terms of fluid equations. Mathematical derivations are presented. (L.N.N.)

Transsonic Instabilities in Laboratory and Astrophysical Plasmas
Physica Scripta, 2004Waves and instabilities of transsonically rotating axisymmetric plasmas present a highly complex problem that is of interest for two unrelated fields of research, viz. laboratory tokamak confinement for the eventual thermonuclear energy production and the dynamics of a vast number of astrophysical plasmas rotating about compact objects, broadly ...

Waves and Instabilities in Plasmas
1994This book presents the contents of a CISM Course on waves and instabilities in plasmas. For beginners and for advanced scientists a review is given on the state of knowledge in the field. Customers can obtain a broad survey.

Plasma waves and instabilities
1985An account is given of the waves and instabilities occurring at collisionless shocks, with attention to the mechanisms responsible for the generation of these waves. The transition region of the shock usually involves an abrupt broadband burst of electrostatic noise that extends from below the lower hybrid resonance to near the electron plasma ...
