Effect of pressure on the performance of plasma synthetic jet actuator

Science China: Physics, Mechanics and Astronomy, 2014
The effects of the ambient air pressure level on the performance of plasma synthetic jet actuator have been investigated through electrical and optical diagnostics. Pressures from 1 atm down to 0.1 atm were tested with a 10 Hz excitation. The discharge measurement demonstrates that there is a voltage range to make the actuator work reliably.

Plasma Synthetic Jet for Flow Control

40th Fluid Dynamics Conference and Exhibit, 2010
The necessity of having an efficient actuator to control flow has driven ONERA to develop a pioneer actuator called Plasma Synthetic Jet (PSJ). This actuator was inspired by the John Hopkins University device. It produces a high exhaust velocity jet using electrical power.

On Plasma Synthetic Jet Actuators

44th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2006
The term plasma actuator refers to an asymmetric arrangement of two electrodes (typically rectangular strips) separated by dielectric material that can be used as active flow control devices. A plasma actuator design consisting of an annular electrode array, the plasma synthetic jet actuator (PSJA), is experimentally investigated in this paper.

Formation, evolution and scaling of plasma synthetic jets

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2017
Plasma synthetic jet actuators (PSJAs), capable of producing high-velocity pulsed jets at high frequency, are well suited for high-Reynolds-number subsonic and supersonic flow control. The effects of energy deposition and actuation frequency on the formation and evolution characteristics of plasma synthetic jets (PSJs) are investigated in detail by ...
