Parametric study of high-frequency characteristics of plasma synthetic jet actuator

Plasma Science and Technology, 2021
Abstract A major issue of plasma synthetic jet actuator (PSJA) is the severe performance deterioration at high working frequency. In this study, experiments and numerical simulation are combined together to investigate the influence of thermal conductivity, throat length (L th) and discharge duration (T

Flow Characteristics of Synthetic Jet Induced by Plasma Actuator

AIAA Journal, 2011
The flowfield induced by a plasma synthetic jet actuator was investigated by solving Reynolds-averaged Navier- Stokes equations, augmented with a phenomenological model representing the plasma-induced body force imparted by a plasma actuator on the fluid. Flow characteristics of an unsteady plasma synthetic jet in quiescent air were presented.

Effect of Plasma Morphology on Flow Control Using Plasma Synthetic Jet Actuators

45th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2007
The plasma synthetic jet actuator (PSJA) is a geometric variant of a plasma actuator, consisting of an annular electrode array that results in a circular region of dielectric barrier discharge plasma. In quiescent conditions, it is observed that this plasma region drives the residual fluid in the form of a vertical zero net mass flux (synthetic) jet ...

Use of Aggregate Plasma Synthetic Jet Actuators for Flow Control

45th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2007
arrangement of the plasma actuator for certain purposes, producing flow structures similar to conventional synthetic or zero net mass flux actuators. One benefit of the plasma synthetic jet actuator arrangement is that the geometry is easily configured to form either “blowing” (source like or away from the actuator) or “sucking” (sink like or toward ...

Analytic model and frequency characteristics of plasma synthetic jet actuator

Physics of Fluids, 2015
This paper reports a novel analytic model of a plasma synthetic jet actuator (PSJA), considering both the heat transfer effect and the inertia of the throat gas. Both the whole cycle characteristics and the repetitive working process of PSJA can be predicted with this model.

PIV and Electric Characterization of a Plasma Synthetic Jet Actuator

45th AIAA Fluid Dynamics Conference, 2015
The Plasma Synthetic Jet actuator is designed for flow control applications. It generates a synthetic jet by using an electric arc created in a cavity. The velocity fields in the jet are measured by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). Electric measurements in the discharge circuit are carried out simultaneously. They allow to control the phase of the PIV

Transient ejection phase modeling of a Plasma Synthetic Jet actuator

Physics of Fluids, 2014
For several years, a promising Plasma Synthetic Jet actuator for high-speed flow control has been under development at ONERA. So far, its confined geometry and small space-time scales at play have prevented its full experimental characterization. Complementary accurate numerical simulations are then considered in this study in order to provide a ...

Supersonic Cavity Flow Control Using Plasma Synthetic Jet Actuators

AIAA Journal
A spanwise array of plasma synthetic jets (PSJs) is employed to control the cavity flow at Mach 2.0 with the aim of mixing enhancement. The time responses of the flow to control are diagnosed by a high-speed schlieren imaging system and a planar particle imaging velocimetry (PIV) system.

Unstructured Numerical Simulation of Experimental Linear Plasma Actuator Synthetic Jet Flows

46th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2008
This paper presents a comparison between experimental data and computational results for the linear plasma synthetic jet actuator (L-PSJA). The L-PSJA conguration consists of two exposed electrode strips separated by an embedded electrode, similar to two linear dielectric barrier discharge actuators being placed back-to-back.
