Abstract With the goal to improve the plasma spraying technique a considerable number of plasma gun types using different physical principles have been developed in the past. In this paper for conventional DC discharge plasma torches widely used in industry, some aspects of operation as arc fluctuations and non-symmetric plasma jets are ...

With acetone as a catalyst in an argon discharge plasma, it is observed that localized high-density anode spots can be formed at sharp edges in the plasma. By placing the sharp edge on top of a small permanent magnet, the current which is attracted to the spot can locally burn a piece of metal beneath the sharp edge.

Numerical modelling of physical properties and processes in an electric arc stabilized by a water vortex (steam torch) has been summarized in this review paper. One-fluid MHD equations are numerically solved for an axisymmetric thermal plasma flow inside a discharge chamber of the steam plasma torch.

Reviews of Physics in Technology, 1971
The design principles and construction are first presented and the important problem of plasma stability and the methods of maintaining stability, over a range of conditions and in different gases, are then considered. The power supplies and the various methods that have been used to initiate the torches are described.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Torches
2013We investigate in this chapter another type of application using eddy currents. An Inductively Coupled Plasma torch (commonly referred to as ICP) is a technical device used to analyze a given sample (gas, solid or liquid prepared as an aerosol) by injecting it in a plasma (generally made of argon) (see Fig. 10.1).

Investigative Studies of Plasma Torch Hazards
American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1968Abstract Potential health hazards from a medium output plasma torch used in a biological laboratory were investigated, and some industrial applications of higher output plasma torches were surveyed. Exposures to intense ultraviolet radiation, noise, and noxious gases and fumes were measured.
