Set-up and first operation of a plasma oven for treatment of low level radioactive wastes [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Technology and Radiation Protection, 2014
An experimental device for plasma treatment of low and intermediate level radioactive waste was built and tested in several design variations. The laboratory device is designed with the intention to study the general effects and difficulties in ...

Non-equilibrium atmospheric-pressure plasma torch sustained in a quasi-optical beam of subterahertz radiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This paper studies a continuous atmospheric-pressure discharge maintained by focused subterahertz radiation of a 263 GHz gyrotron. A plasma torch propagating towards microwave radiation was sustained on an argon flow exiting a metal gas tube in the surrounding atmosphere of air.

Covalently‐Bonded Diaphite Nanoplatelet with Engineered Electronic Properties of Diamond

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel approach to engineering the electronic properties of diamond is reported on the diaphite nanoplatelet consisting of (11¯${{\bar{1}}}$1) planes of diamond nanoplatelet covalently bonded with graphite (0001) planes. The strong sp3/sp2‐hybridized interfacial covalent bonding induces the electron transfer from diamond to graphite, resulting in a ...

Effects of induction coil parameters of plasma torch on the distribution of temperature and flow fields

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2021
This paper aims to disclose how the induction coil parameters affects the temperature and flow fields of the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) torch. For this purpose, a numerical model was established for the balanced discharge of the ICP torch based on ...

Flexible Production of Spherical Powders of Ti‐V‐Zr‐Nb‐Mo‐Hf‐Ta‐W Refractory High‐Entropy Alloys by Plasma‐Assisted Centrifugal Atomization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
In this work, spherical powders of refractory Ti‐V‐Zr‐Nb‐Mo‐Hf‐Ta‐W high‐entropy alloys (R‐HEAs) have been fabricated in a single step by plasma‐assisted centrifugal atomization. Loss of the heaviest elements in the composition is observed only at rotational speeds higher than 13 000 rpm due to solid‐solid centrifugal separation.

Solid Carbon Produced in an Inductively Coupled Plasma Torch with a Titan Like Atmosphere

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2013
Solid carbon is deposited on the surfaces of an inductively coupled plasma torch operating with a Titan like atmosphere plasma gas. The frame of the initial research is the study of the radiative properties of plasma encountered around a spacecraft ...

PTFE surface etching in the post-discharge of a RF scanning plasma torch: evidence of ejected fluorinated species [PDF]

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, 2012, Vol. 9, Issue 8, 820-829, 2016
The texturization of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) surfaces is achieved at atmospheric pressure by using the post-discharge of a radio-frequency plasma torch supplied in helium and oxygen gases. The surface properties are characterized by contact angle measurement, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. We show that the plasma

Biological and Mechanical Limitations for Chronic Fast‐Scan Cyclic Voltammetry Sensor Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Real‐time detection of neurochemicals has demonstrated value in the field of neuroscience. However, current methods have limitations for use in the chronic setting, which is often the ideal environment for research. This article discusses these limitations, as well as technologies that have been developed to overcome them, and provides recommendations ...

Computational Analysis of Flow Separation in Non-Transferred Plasma Torch: Causes, Impacts and Control Methods

open access: yesFluids
In a non-transferred plasma torch, the working gas becomes ionized and forms plasma as it interacts with the electric arc at the cathode tip. However, in certain cathode shapes, particularly flat ones, and under specific conditions, the gas flow can ...
