Surface Modification of Stainless Steel Using an Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Arc Driven by an External Transverse- Alternating Magnetic Field

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2015
An experimental cleaning system for surface modification was developed. It consisted of a plasma torch with a DC power supply to generate an atmospheric pressure plasma arc, two field coils with an AC power supply to generate an external transverse ...

A Causal Relationship Between Boron Seeds and the Selectivity and Growth Mode of Boron Nitride Nanotubes in Inductively‐Coupled Plasma

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Boron seed formation governs BNNT selectivity in an inductively‐coupled plasma system. Local thermodynamics and flow conditions control the abundance and the size of these seeds. BNNT selectivity scales with seed abundance, while the nanotube diameters remain largely unaffected despite seed size changes.

Advancing Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes toward Next‐Generation Electronic Materials: The Critical Roles of Purity and Processability

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are promising for a wide range of applications. In particular, their exceptional electrical conductivity positions them as potential alternatives to traditional metal conductors. This review identifies the key mechanisms governing their conductivity within composites and proposes practical pathways for translating

Evaluating Plasma Torches as a Low‐Decarburization Preheating Method for MgO–C Refractory Linings

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study evaluates direct current (DC) plasma torches using nitrogen as an alternative preheating method for magnesia‐carbon (MgO–C) refractory‐lined ladles. Full‐scale trials at 0.7 and 1.5 MW are compared to conventional gas burner. Plasma‐heated samples show lower decarburization and improved surface integrity due to partial sintering and reduced ...

Microstructural Characterization of Shrouded Plasma-Sprayed Titanium Coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Titanium and its alloys are often used for corrosion protection because they are able to offer high chemical resistance against various corrosive media. In this paper, shrouded plasma spray technology was applied to produce titanium coatings.

Characterization of Microwave Plasma Torch for Decontamination [PDF]

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, 2008
AbstractAn atmospheric low‐temperature microwave plasma torch has been developed and applied to disinfection. The size of the plasma output is relatively large (35 mm in diameter). Ar gas at a flow rate of 2.2 slm and 85 W microwave power are used. Plasma discharges are produced between the tip of each electrode and the inner surface of the cylinder ...

Sourcing carnelian beads from the ancient Mesopotamian site of Kish, Iraq, 2450–2200 BCE: Stylistic, technological and geochemical approaches

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Trade between Mesopotamia and the Indus Civilization is studied through the analysis of Early Dynastic III Period (2600–2350 BCE) carnelian beads from the site of Kish, Iraq. Morphological and technological features of the beads are compared with beads from the Indus region.
