Reviews of Physics in Technology, 1971
The design principles and construction are first presented and the important problem of plasma stability and the methods of maintaining stability, over a range of conditions and in different gases, are then considered. The power supplies and the various methods that have been used to initiate the torches are described.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Torches
2013We investigate in this chapter another type of application using eddy currents. An Inductively Coupled Plasma torch (commonly referred to as ICP) is a technical device used to analyze a given sample (gas, solid or liquid prepared as an aerosol) by injecting it in a plasma (generally made of argon) (see Fig. 10.1).

Investigative Studies of Plasma Torch Hazards
American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1968Abstract Potential health hazards from a medium output plasma torch used in a biological laboratory were investigated, and some industrial applications of higher output plasma torches were surveyed. Exposures to intense ultraviolet radiation, noise, and noxious gases and fumes were measured.

FROM TRANSFERRED ARC TO PLASMA TORCHES
High Temperature Material Processes (An International Quarterly of High-Technology Plasma Processes), 2005Thermal plasma generated either by transferred arc or by plasma torches are involved in many industrial processes including, for example, cutting, welding, powder synthesis or coating elaboration by plasma spray techniques. The common feature is that electrical energy is converted into thermal energy, which must be transferred differently following the

Plasma torch igniter for scramjets
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1989A small, uncooled plasma torch was developed and used in combination with an injector designed to study ignition and flameholding in hydrogen-fueled supersonic flows. The plasma torch was operated on mixtures of hydrogen and argon with total flows of 10 to 70 scfh.

The plasma torch is a poorly understood, little known prodigy among the physical modalities used in medicine. It is unknown to most physicians because it is presently an experimental tool, references in the medical literature are sparse, and it masquerades under several aliases.

Arcs, plasma torches and applications
IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 2002 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (Cat. No.02CH37340), 2003Summary form only given, as follows. The applications of arcs and plasma torches can be roughly classified in two domains: electrical engineering and thermal (or chemical) processes. In the first category we can consider circuit-breakers, arc lamps and some aspects concerning lightning. In the second category, we can distinguish metallurgical processes

Ion implantation for plasma torches
Vacuum, 2002Abstract It has been shown before that the erosion of a cathode is related to the condition of its surface, particularly with respect to its composition. The composition of the surface seems to affect different parameters, including the work function of the surface.

Platelet-cooled plasma torch electrode
26th Plasmadynamics and Lasers Conference, 1995This paper discusses design and testing of a hollow type platelet-cooled plasma torch electrode having more than ten times the life of conventional electrodes. The platelet electrode possesses internal water cooling channels as well as gas injection passages which permit tangential injection of a secondary gas at the electrode inner diameter.
