Plasma Transferred Arc Coating

2021
The plasma transferred arc (PTA) coating process was developed in the 1960s for the rebuilding and repair of worn parts and the hard facing of parts exposed to extreme abrasion and corrosion. Regular steel parts with an appropriate PTA coating can exhibit superior corrosion and wear-resistant behavior even compared to specialty alloys.

FROM TRANSFERRED ARC TO PLASMA TORCHES

High Temperature Material Processes (An International Quarterly of High-Technology Plasma Processes), 2005
Thermal plasma generated either by transferred arc or by plasma torches are involved in many industrial processes including, for example, cutting, welding, powder synthesis or coating elaboration by plasma spray techniques. The common feature is that electrical energy is converted into thermal energy, which must be transferred differently following the

Radiation Transfer In Arc Plasmas

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2006
In this paper, attention is given to the theoretical prediction of radiative heat transfer in arc plasmas of air. We present new databank of partial characteristics and net emission coefficients at various plasma pressures. In addition, results of calculations of the fraction of the ultraviolet region are presented as a function of a temperature ...

Hardfacing by plasma transfer arc process

Welding International, 2012
The plasma powder transferred arc welding process which uses feed stock in a powder form has similarities with plasma wire transferred arc welding. This paper describes a comparative study of the two processes using a cobalt-based alloy commercially known as stellite 6.

Characteristics of a transferred‐arc plasma

AIChE Journal, 1983
AbstractThe basic characteristics of a transferred arc argon plasma were determined using a cathode assembly suitable for transferring the electric arc to a molten metal bath or to a cooled anode. They indicated that the sustained voltage depended strongly on the arc length and much less on current.

Plasma-Transferred Arc

2013
The development of the plasma transferred arc coating process was directed towards reducing the cost of corrosion and wear resistant parts. Regular steel parts with an appropriate PTA coating can exhibit superior corrosion and wear behavior even compared to specialty alloys. The process is significantly different from the other coating processes as the

Solidification of Plasma Transferred Arc Coatings

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2011
Abstract Plasma Transferred Arc is the only thermal spray process that results in a metallurgical bond with the substrate. When compared with other welded coatings finer microstructures are observed after PTA processing, which have been associated with the faster solidification rate imposed by this technique.

Pulsed current plasma transferred arc hardfacing

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2006
Abstract Hardfacing is used to enhance surface properties of a metallic component, as a specially designed alloy is surface welded to achieve specific wear properties. Surface properties and quality depend upon the selected alloy and welding process.
