Non‐Equilibrium Synthesis Methods to Create Metastable and High‐Entropy Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Stabilizing multiple elements within a single phase enables the creation of advanced materials with exceptional properties arising from their complex composition. However, under equilibrium conditions, the Hume–Rothery rules impose strict limitations on solid‐state miscibility, restricting combinations of elements with mismatched crystal ...

Multifaceted Behavior and Functional Versatility of Ferritic Stainless Steels, Part I: Applications and Processing, a Review

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This review investigates the processing‐microstructure‐property relationships in ferritic stainless steels (FSSs). It highlights advances in deformation behavior, heat treatments, surface modifications, and alloying effects. Theoretical models, including Johnson‐Mehl‐Avrami‐Kolmogorov, Arrhenius, nucleation theory, and diffusion theories, are discussed

A new approach for prediction of the wear loss of PTA surface coatings using artificial neural network and basic, kernel-based, and weighted extreme learning machine

open access: yesFriction, 2020
Wear tests are essential in the design of parts intended to work in environments that subject a part to high wear. Wear tests involve high cost and lengthy experiments, and require special test equipment.

Mechanically Deposited Wear‐Resistant Amorphous Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 3, 4 February 2026.
Mechanically deposited from glassy ribbons, the Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 amorphous coating formed a hard, continuous layer on AISI 1010 steel, tripling substrate hardness, lowering friction, and reducing wear. Despite its rough surface, it showed friction and wear behavior comparable to the crystalline alloy, highlighting its strong potential as a durable ...

Carbide addition on aluminum alloy surface by plasma transferred arc welding process.

open access: yesJournal of Japan Institute of Light Metals, 1990
Effect of carbide addition on the surface characteristics of aluminum alloy 5083 has been investigated with the plasma transferred arc welding process (DCSP) of NbC, TiC or SiC powder. Optimum overlaying conditions under which bead appearance is superior and porosities in overlaid metal are lesser are determined.

Review of Flash Joule Heating for the Synthesis of Graphene and Other Functional Carbon Materials

open access: yesCarbon Energy, Volume 8, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Flash Joule heating (FJH), as a high‐efficiency and low‐energy consumption technology for advanced materials synthesis, has shown significant potential in the synthesis of graphene and other functional carbon materials. Based on the Joule effect, the solid carbon sources can be rapidly heated to ultra‐high temperatures (> 3000 K) through ...
