Hydrodynamic models of the plasmasphere

1988
A brief history of the application of hydrodynamic models to the understanding of the plasmaspheric density distribution is presented. Then results from recent modeling are discussed in more detail and areas of agreement between theory and measurement are established.

Giant pulsations in the plasmasphere

Planetary and Space Science, 1985
Abstract It has been generally accepted up to now that giant pulsations (Pg) are auroral zone phenomena but here we present observations of a sequence of three Pg events on successive days at three stations well within the plasmasphere. Field line resonance behaviour is exhibited with one of the events clearly resonating at L ≅ 2.8.

The Structure of the Plasmasphere on the Basis of Direct Measurements

1972
The plasmasphere is the outermost region of the ionosphere which extends up to several earth radii. It is filled with a collisionless cold plasma in which the geomagnetic field is frozen. The data obtained from the first measurements in this region (up to 1963) are given as a background.
