Microplastic Contamination of Chicken Meat and Fish through Plastic Cutting Boards

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2022
Microplastic contamination was found in fish and chicken bought on the market, in food stores and in chain supermarkets in the Middle East with the contamination ranging from 0.03 ± 0.04 to 1.19 ± 0.72 particles per gram of meat in chicken ...

Soil contamination by phthalate esters in Chinese intensive vegetable production systems with different modes of use of plastic film [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Pollution, 2013
The concentrations of six priority phthalic acid esters (PAEs) in intensively managed suburban vegetable soils in Nanjing, east China, were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Plasticizers as Contaminants in Commercial Ethanol

Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 1987
A batch of 95% ethanol caused unusually strong disordering of biomembranes, which could be detected either by fluorescence anisotropy in synaptosomal membranes or by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy in erythrocyte membranes. The contaminated batches of ethanol were visibly fluorescent when evaporated on filter paper.

Lead contamination of inexpensive plastic jewelry

Science of The Total Environment, 2008
The neurological hazards of lead to children are well-known. As a result of recent documented cases of lead poisoning, regulatory attention in the United States has focused on the lead content of children's metal jewelry. By contrast, little is known about the possible hazards of plastic jewelry items.

Effects of oil contamination and bioremediation on geotechnical properties of highly plastic clayey soil

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2021
Leakage of oil and its derivatives into the soil can change the engineering behavior of soil as well as cause environmental disasters. Also, recovering the contaminated sites into their natural condition and making contaminated materials as both ...
