Deformation pathway and defect generation in crystals: a combined group theory and graph theory description

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2019
The generation and motion of crystalline defects during plastic deformation are critical processes that determine the mechanical properties of a crystal.

Crystal nucleation of colloidal hard dumbbells

open access: yes, 2010
Using computer simulations we investigate the homogeneous crystal nucleation in suspensions of colloidal hard dumbbells. The free energy barriers are determined by Monte Carlo simulations using the umbrella sampling technique. We calculate the nucleation

X-ray rocking curve study of Si-implanted GaAs, Si, and Ge [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Crystalline properties of Si-implanted GaAs, Si, and Ge have been studied by Bragg case double-crystal x-ray diffraction. Sharp qualitative and quantitative differences were found between the damage in GaAs on one hand and Si and Ge on the other.

Cooperativity in plastic crystals

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2018
A statistical mechanical model previously adopted for the analysis of the α-relaxation in structural glass formers is rederived within a general theoretical framework originally developed for systems approaching the ideal glassy state. The interplay between nonexponentiality and cooperativity is reconsidered in the light of energy landscape concepts ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Volumetric Additive Manufacturing of Dicyclopentadiene by Solid‐State Photopolymerization

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Polymerization in the solid state is generally infeasible due to restrictions on mobility. However, in this work, the solid‐state photopolymerization of crystalline dicyclopentadiene is demonstrated via photoinitiated ring‐opening metathesis ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve
