Plastic pollution in brackish waters: Macroalgae as collectors of plastic debris
Transitional waters, like the Capo Peloro lagoon, are ecologically and commercially valuable but particularly vulnerable to plastic pollution. This study investigates, for the first time, how two bloom-forming macroalgae, Chaetomorpha aerea and Hypnea cornuta, trap plastic debris in Ganzirri lake (Capo Peloro lagoon).

Remote Sensing of Coastal Marine Plastic Debris
The increasing presence of plastic in the world’s oceans and along coastlines is an environmental issue that has captured the attention of both the public and the scientific community. Since the late 20th century, the amount of plastic in oceans, seas, rivers, coastal waters, and on beaches has been rising steadily.

Assessing hitchhikers of marine plastic debris
Plastic debris in the marine environment continues to increase, which acts as a vector for transportation of hitchhikers. The marine plastic debris(MPD) are mainly litter that are discarded at sea or reaching the sea through waterways by currents and ...

Debris Mitigation Methods for Bridge Piers, Final Repory, June 2012 [PDF]
Debris accumulation on bridge piers is an on-going national problem that can obstruct the waterway openings at bridges and result in significant erosion of stream banks and scour at abutments and piers.
