Plastic Optical Fibers

Proceedings of the International Conference and Workshop on Emerging Trends in Technology, 2010
This paper deals with the analysis of the current POF market trends and its estimated growth in the vital sectors in the years to come. Plastic optical fibers have now come into the limelight since they have become an apparent middle ground between copper and glass optical fibers.

Influence of mode coupling on three spatially multiplexed channels in multimode graded index plastic optical fibers

Laser physics, 2020
The influence of mode coupling on three-channel spatial division multiplexing capability in multimode graded index plastic optical fibers is investigated by solving the power flow equation.

Twisted tapered plastic optical fibers for continuous liquid level sensing

, 2020
A low-cost liquid level sensor capable of continuous liquid level sensing is proposed in this work. The sensor is based on twisted tapered plastic optical fibers (POFs) which is fabricated by twisting the tapered POFs around each other.

Spatial division multiplexing in nine-core graded index plastic optical fibers

Laser physics, 2020
We propose a spatial division multiplexing in a new designed multimode multicore graded index plastic optical fiber with nine cores arranged in an octagonal array.

Power Flow in Graded-Index Plastic Optical Fibers

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2019
A method is proposed for predicting the evolution of the power distribution along graded-index plastic optical fibers. This method is verified against our recently reported measurements.

Plastic optical fiber star coupler

Applied Optics, 1986
A new plastic optical fiber star coupler and the means of fabricating it have been developed. This coupler has been realized by twisting and pulling the waist region of a biconical tapered fiber bundle made by pretapered fibers while heating. Controlling the biconical tapered shape has been achieved by jetting gas on the fiber surface while heating the

Bidirectional optical coupler for plastic optical fibers

Applied Optics, 2005
We have developed a low-loss bidirectional optical coupler for high-speed optical communication with plastic optical fibers (POFs). The coupler, which is fabricated by an injection molding method that uses poly (methyl methacrylate), has an antisymmetric tapered shape. We show that the coupler has low insertion and branching losses.

Plastic Fiber Optics

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1967
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Plastic fiber optics have been developed which possess excellent light transmission characteristics. The basic theory which explains this phenomenon of light transmission through plastic fibers and certain physical properties which characterize the utility of Crofon plastic fiber optics are discussed.

Plastic optical fiber technology

SPIE Proceedings, 2000
We discuss plastic optical fiber technology in the context of its relationship to glass optical fiber technology. POF technology serves as a low cost way to investigate innovative optical fiber material structures. POFs offer some application advantages, especially in low cost broad bandwidth easily interconnected local area networks.

Water monitoring in smart cities exploiting plastic optical fibers and molecularly imprinted polymers. The case of PFBS detection

IEEE International Workshop on Measurement and Networking, 2019
The detection of perfluorobutanesulfonic acid (PFBS) in water is presented for the first time exploiting a low-cost optical chemical sensing strategy, based on plastic optical fibers and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), able to detect pollutants in
