The Role of Trade in Governing Plastic Pollution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Marine plastic pollution, in particular plastic waste, has received increasing attention at the international level and has been recognized as a transboundary problem requiring a global response in the form of an international plastics treaty.

Amyloid‐Templated Ceria Nanozyme Reinforced Microneedle for Diabetic Wound Treatments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates an effective strategy for synthesizing high‐catalytic and stable nanozymes, and introduces the first example of amyloid‐ceria nanozymes reinforced microneedle which features a complex, synergistic catalytic behavior combining superoxide dismutase and catalase‐like activities, promoting to remodel the infection microenvironment in

High‐Performance Electrocatalysts of Potassium Lactate Oxidation for Hydrogen and Solid Potassium Acetate Production

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
Potassium lactate, produced from polylactic acid plastic waste, is oxidized to potassium acetate on an anode using Ni(Co)OOH as the electrocatalyst, while hydrogen is simultaneously generated at the cathode, through a highly efficient industrial‐scale electrolysis system.

Seine Plastic Debris Transport Tenfolded During Increased River Discharge

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2019
Rivers transport land-based plastic waste into the ocean. Current efforts to quantify riverine plastic emission come with uncertainty as field observations are scarce.

A Natural Lignification Inspired Super‐Hard Wood‐Based Composites with Extreme Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Super‐hard wood‐based composites (WBC) are designed and developed inspired by the mesoscale homogeneous lignification process intrinsic to tree growth. This innovative hybrid structure is achieved by leveraging the infusion of low‐molecular‐weight phenol formaldehyde resin into the cell walls of thin wood slices, followed by a unique multi‐layer ...

Corrosion‐Resistant, Water‐Repellent, and Anti‐Icing Properties of the Fabricated Slippery Liquid‐Infused Porous Surface (SLIPS) on TiO2 Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A durable slippery liquid‐infused porous surface (SLIPS) is fabricated on the TiO2 nanotubes. First, TiO2 nanotubes are processed on a Ti via anodic oxidation. The anodized surface is then modified by ethanol, distilled water, trimethoxy(propyl)silane, and Krytox GPL 105 Oil.

Removal of Natural Organic Matter Fractions by Kaolin/Fly Ash Ceramic Microfiltration Membrane in Drinking Water: Insights from a Laboratory Scale Application

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The prepared ceramic membrane exhibited 28.84 µm average pore size and hydrophilic properties (≈27.4° contact angle). FTIR shows the presence of aluminol, siloxane, and hydroxyl groups and XRD confirms the presence of quartz and kaolinite phases. Separation of natural organic matter from drinking water is achieved by microfiltration at 0.25 bar and is ...
