Background and Purpose Dopamine receptor agonists, particularly targeting the dopamine D2L receptor (D2LR), have been used to treat Parkinson's disease (PD). However, valvular heart disease and somnolence, mainly caused by activating the serotonin 5‐HT2B receptor (5‐HT2BR) and dopamine D3 receptor (D3R), respectively, currently challenge their clinical

Model-based Design Evaluation of a Compact, High-Efficiency Neutron Scatter Camera
This paper presents the model-based design and evaluation of an instrument that estimates incident neutron direction using the kinematics of neutron scattering by hydrogen-1 nuclei in an organic scintillator.

Abstract The tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum, G. Cuvier 1818) thrives both in the ion‐poor waters of the Amazon and in commercial aquaculture. In both, environmental conditions can be harsh due to low ion levels, occasional high salt challenges (in aquaculture), low pH, extreme PO2 levels (hypoxia and hyperoxia), high PCO2 levels (hypercapnia), high ...

Radiation-resistant plastic scintillators
Fluorinederivatives of 4'-phenyl-3-hydroxyflavone have been synthesized and used as activators for radiation-resistant plastic scintillators based on polystyrene. Plastic scintillators containing 1.0 wt. % of the corresponding activators were created.

A new anti-neutrino detection technique based on positronium tagging with plastic scintillators
The main signature for anti-neutrino detection in reactor and geo-neutrino experiments based on scintillators is provided by the space-time coincidence of positron and neutron produced in the Inverse Beta Decay reaction.

Abstract The Amazonian loricariid fish Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps, from the Rio Negro, and Pterygoplichthys pardalis, from the Rio Solimões, are facultative air‐breathers that can use the stomach as an air‐breathing organ. Measurement of oxygen uptake under progressive aquatic hypoxia revealed a relatively high hypoxia resistance of both species.

Sampling calorimeter to measure the photon’s incident angle [PDF]
A three-dimensional fine-segmented sampling calorimeter enables us to measure the profiles of generated shower particles along the photon’s direction. For a feasibility study, a toy detector was designed via Geant4 simulation.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate how exposure to elevated water temperature and metal concentration jointly affect the physiology of Amazonian fish. Aboard a research vessel in the Amazon, we evaluated the effects of water temperature (river T°C at 31.5°C and a + 4°C increase to 35.5°C) and of 3‐h copper (Cu) exposure (up to 600 μg/L) in ...
