Inflammatory Response‐Inspired Thermochromic Shield for Pneumatic Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A thermochromic shield for pneumatic structures is developed, using anhydrous sodium acetate powder and thermochromic pigment‐included solution. In this shield composed of three layers, the exothermic and thermochromic reactions, followed by the mixture of both components, occur promptly with an incident of penetrating damage as a sign of initial ...

Engineering Deformation and Failure in Diamond Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Lattices via 3D Wall‐Thickness Grading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The work demonstrates that strategic wall‐thickness grading in diamond triply periodic minimal surface lattices enables precise tuning of deformation and failure behavior under compression. Different gradation patterns guide how and where the structure collapses, improving energy absorption or promoting controlled brittle failure.

Faster - Better Molds Through RSP Tooling New Research and Advancements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The recent developments in rapid production tooling have all but made the need for prototype tooling disappear. There are several approaches that are now as fast and inexpensive as prototype tooling, and after part approval can continue to run in high ...

Analysis of printing parameters for metal additive manufactured parts through Direct Ink Writing process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Direct Ink Writing is an Additive Manufacturing process in which a metal ink is continuously extruded to built-up a green metal part. Therefore, a debinding and sintering process is required to obtain the final metal part. This thermal process produces a

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Aqueous-Based Extrusion Fabrication of Ceramics on Demand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Aqueous-Based Extrusion Fabrication is an additive manufacturing technique that extrudes ceramic slurries of high solids loading layer by layer for part fabrication. The material reservoir in a previously developed system has been modified to allow for

Kinetic Insights into Precursor‐Assisted Soft Sphere Close Packing Revealed by In Situ GISAXS with Implications for Gas Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The versatile precursor‐assisted soft sphere close packing during slot‐die coating is investigated with in situ X‐ray scattering. The soft crystallization pathways towards a close packing involve multistep structural transitions such as surface nucleation, in‐plane, and out‐of‐plane crystallization.

Mechanical Properties of Architected Polymer Lattice Materials: A Comparative Study of Additive Manufacturing and CAD Using FEM and µ‐CT

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how pore shape and manufacturing‐induced deviations affect the mechanical properties of 3D‐printed lattice materials with constant porosity. Combining µ‐CT analysis, FEM, and compression testing, the authors show that structural imperfections reduce stiffness and strength, while bulk material inhomogeneities probably enhance ...
