Effects of biochar on desiccation cracking characteristics of different soils and their mechanism

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2023
In nature, the desiccation cracking of soils caused by water evaporation and shrinkage may lead to various engineering geological problems. The addition of biochar into the soil can effectively change its desiccation cracking characteristics.

Effects of Fly Ash Dosage on Shrinkage, Crack Resistance and Fractal Characteristics of Face Slab Concrete

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2022
The crack resistance of face slab concretes to various shrinkages is crucial for the structural integrity and the normal operation of concrete-faced rockfill dams (CFRDs). In this work, the effects of fly ash with four dosages (i.e., 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%

Modeling the Influence of Environmental Factors on Concrete Evaporation Rate [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Soft Computing in Civil Engineering, 2020
Newly poured concrete opposing hot and windy conditions is considerably susceptible to plastic shrinkage cracking. Crack-free concrete structures are essential in ensuring high level of durability and functionality as cracks allow harmful instances or ...

Plastic Shrinkage Cracking of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement Concrete in Normal and Extreme Climates: Influence of Superplasticiser

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering
Limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) has emerged as a promising low-carbon alternative to ordinary Portland cement (OPC). However, its early-age cracking, particularly plastic shrinkage cracking, remains underexplored. This study investigates the plastic

Influence of Polypropylene Fiber on Plastic Shrinkage Cracks of Concrete

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Research (Libya), 2021

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Shrinkage and mechanical properties of drying oil paints

open access: yesHeritage Science, 2022
Understanding how the evolving molecular composition of an oil paint layer on its transition to an aged solid film affects its dimensional change and mechanical properties is fundamental to the assessment of material durability and more broadly risk of ...

Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...
