Reduction of Cracking and Shrinkage in Compressed Clay Beams during Drying [PDF]

open access: yesMehran University Research Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2016
Uncontrolled evaporation of moisture from compressed clay beams can cause surface cracks, resulting in reduction of strength. This paper presents various treatments applied to clay beams during the process of casting, compacting and drying in order to ...

Presenting an experimental model to investigate the effect of changing the dimensions of macro-synthetic-fiber-reinforced concrete on fracture energy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Structural and Construction Engineering, 2020
Concrete has a brittle behavior as one of the most frequently used construction materials. Adding fibers to concrete can enhance its ductility and some of its mechanical properties.

Influence of Polypropylene Fiber on Plastic Shrinkage Cracks of Concrete

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Research (Libya), 2021

Mitigating plastic shrinkage cracking in alkali-activated slag systems by internal curing with superabsorbent polymers

open access: yes, 2022
In this study, superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) are studied to mitigate the plastic shrinkage in three alkali-activated slag (AAS) systems. Plastic shrinkage cracking tests were performed on fresh AAS pastes, while monitoring the capillary pressure, the ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Linear Shrinkage Behaviour of Compacted Loam Masonry Blocks [PDF]

open access: yesMehran University Research Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2017
Walls of wet loam, used in earthen houses, generally experience more shrinkage which results in cracks and less compressive strength. This paper presents a technique of producing loam masonry blocks that are compacted in drained state during casting ...
