Induced anisotropy during plastic straining

International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 1984
AbstractThe restrictions imposed by the form‐invariance principle on the structure of the elasto‐plastic constitutive law for small strains are examined. It is shown that the yield and plastic potential functions may depend on the joint invariants of the stress and plastic strain tensors in addition to their dependence on the direct invariants of these

Finite-strain anisotropic plasticity and the plastic spin

Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering, 1994
A detailed analysis of the kinematics of anisotropic elastoplastic solids under finite isothermal deformations is presented. The formulation is based on a multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient tenser into elastic and plastic parts.

Construction of the Equivalent Plastic Strain Increment

Studies in Applied Mathematics, 1972
Strain hardening plastic deformation of a material possessing a yield locus (f(σij)) which may be written as a homogeneous function of the stress components (σij), and which obeys the classical associated flow rule for metals (e.g. Bishop and Hill, 1951) is considered. The material may be anisotropic and may display plastic dilatation.

Bounds on plastic strains for elastic plastic structures in plastic shakedown conditions

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2007
The problem related to the computation of bounds on plastic deformations for structures in plastic shakedown condition (alternating plasticity) is studied. In particular, reference is made to structures discretized by finite elements constituted by elastic perfectly plastic material and subjected to a special combination of fixed and cyclic loads.

Elastic-Plastic Deformation at Finite Strains

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1969
In some circumstances, elastic-plastic deformation occurs in which both components of strain are finite. Such situations fall outside the scope of classical plasticity theory which assumes either infinitesimal strains or plastic-rigid theory for large strains.

Plastic strain localization in Bouligand structures

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials
The Bouligand structure represents helicoidal stacking of aligned fibers; such a structure is widely observed in biological composites. Despite the progress in characterization of toughening caused by Bouligand arrangement of fibers, the inelastic deformation mechanisms of this structure remain elusive.

On the role of moving elastic–plastic boundaries in strain gradient plasticity

Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering, 2006
Gradient plasticity theories which are used to describe size effects require nonstandard boundary conditions. We believe that the role of these boundary conditions in combination with a moving elastic–plastic boundary has so far not been well understood. In order to clarify the conditions which are required at such an internal boundary, semi-analytical

Instability of Plastic Strain and Fracture. Strain Diagram for Inhomogeneous Media

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2000
A strain diagram for a locally inhomogeneous medium (a medium with a porous structure or a system with noncut particles) is constructed on the basis of the Cosserat nonlinear pseudocontinuum model. A modified criterion of geometrical softening is considered that makes it possible to establish the dependence of the moment of stability loss on the ...
