Exceptional Cosmetic surgeries on $S^3$ [PDF]

open access: yesTopology and its Applications, Volume 204, 15 May 2016, Pages 217-229, 2015
This paper concerns the truly or purely cosmetic surgery conjecture. We give a survey on exceptional surgeries and cosmetic surgeries. We prove that the slope of an exceptional truly cosmetic surgery on a hyperbolic knot in $S^3$ must be $\pm 1$ and the surgery must be toroidal but not Seifert fibred.

Deep Plastic Surgery: Robust and Controllable Image Editing with Human-Drawn Sketches [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Sketch-based image editing aims to synthesize and modify photos based on the structural information provided by the human-drawn sketches. Since sketches are difficult to collect, previous methods mainly use edge maps instead of sketches to train models (referred to as edge-based models).

Feasibility study of skin dosimetry with TLD sheets for measuring the effect of 3D printed bolus in radiotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract The thermoluminescence dosimeter (TLD) sheet is a measurement device coated with manganese‐doped LiB3O5 in sheet form. The sheet is 0.2‐mm thick and flexible. Hence, it can fit and be installed on irregular surfaces. The current study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of measuring patient surface doses during radiation therapy using TLD sheets.

3D Face Reconstruction: the Road to Forensics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
3D face reconstruction algorithms from images and videos are applied to many fields, from plastic surgery to the entertainment sector, thanks to their advantageous features. However, when looking at forensic applications, 3D face reconstruction must observe strict requirements that still make its possible role in bringing evidence to a lawsuit unclear.

Surface dose analysis and dosimetric comparison of Halcyon versus Truebeam in breast cancer radiotherapy: An OSL dosimetry study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Breast cancer is a neoplastic disease with high prevalence among women. Radiotherapy is one of the principal treatment modalities for this disease, but it poses significant challenges. This study aimed to compare and evaluate the technical and dosimetric performance of conventional C‐arm linac systems and a new design, Halcyon, in the ...

Vector variational problem with knitting boundary conditions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We consider a variational problem with a polyconvex integrand and nonstandard boundary conditions that can be treated as minimization of the stress energy during the suturing process in the plastic surgery. Ex- istence of minimizers is proved as well as necessary optimality conditions are discussed.

On Matching Faces with Alterations due to Plastic Surgery and Disguise [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Plastic surgery and disguise variations are two of the most challenging co-variates of face recognition. The state-of-art deep learning models are not sufficiently successful due to the availability of limited training samples. In this paper, a novel framework is proposed which transfers fundamental visual features learnt from a generic image dataset ...

Home‐Based Tele‐tDCS in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: Feasibility, Safety, and Preliminary Efficacy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with limited treatment options. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) shows promise as a neuromodulatory intervention in various neurological disorders, but its application in ALS, particularly in a remote, home‐based format, remains underexplored.

Subthalamic Nucleus Oscillatory Characteristics in Meige, Cervical Dystonia and Generalized Dystonia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Deep brain stimulation offers a unique opportunity to record neural activity of the basal ganglia. While much work in dystonia has focused on the globus pallidus internus, expanding research to investigate subthalamic nucleus (STN) activity in various dystonia types is critical to provide a comprehensive understanding of dystonia ...
