Plastic Waste Disposal and Reuse of Plastic Waste
2019Plastic waste is one of the major pollutants of the solid waste throughout the world. The slow degradation rate of plastic waste results in death of billions of living organisms in marine and terrestrial environments. To dispose the plastic waste, various people around the globe tried to degrade or convert the plastic waste into usable form by using ...

Plastic Waste Problem and Education for Plastic Waste Management
2017Economic development and people’s changing patterns of consumption and production have led to a drastic increase in plastic wastes all over the world. Plastic waste disposal harms the environment and poses threat to human health. Hence, there is great desire to reduce the plastic wastes.

Pyrolysis of plastic waste: Opportunities and challenges
Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis, 2020With current low recycling rates and exponentially increasing production of plastics there is an increase in plastic material wastage, and thus new technologies are needed for waste refining. Presently in Europe, only about 10% of plastic waste is recycled, most of which is achieved through mechanical recycling.

A prescription for plastic waste
Trends in BiotechnologyIn a recent study, Johnson et al. demonstrated a potentially generalizable strategy to bioremediate and upcycle plastic waste by interfacing a chemical reaction not typically found in nature with Escherichia coli. They further applied this approach to synthesize paracetamol (acetaminophen), one of the most widely used over-the-counter active ...

Waste-to-energy: Dehalogenation of plastic-containing wastes
Waste Management, 2016The dehalogenation measurements could be carried out with the decomposition of plastic wastes simultaneously or successively. This paper reviewed the progresses in dehalogenation followed by thermochemical conversion of plastic-containing wastes for clean energy production.

A Review of Plastic Waste Biodegradation
Critical Reviews in Biotechnology, 2005With more and more plastics being employed in human lives and increasing pressure being placed on capacities available for plastic waste disposal, the need for biodegradable plastics and biodegradation of plastic wastes has assumed increasing importance in the last few years. This review looks at the technological advancement made in the development of

Pyrolysis of composite plastic waste
Environmental Technology, 2003Several different composite plastics were pyrolysed in a fixed bed reactor at final temperatures between 350 and 800 degrees C. The composites studied were polyester, phenolic, epoxy, vinylester, polypropylene and PET resins, reinforced with glass and/or carbon fibre.

Biodegradability of degradable plastic waste
Waste Management & Research: The Journal for a Sustainable Circular Economy, 2005Plastic waste constitutes the third largest waste volume in Malaysian municipal solid waste (MSW), next to putrescible waste and paper. The plastic component in MSW from Kuala Lumpur averages 24% (by weight), whereas the national mean is about 15%. The 144 waste dumps in the country receive about 95% of the MSW, including plastic waste.
