Inclusion Effect on The Plastic Zone Size in Confined Plasticity
2008In understanding fatigue properties of metallic alloys, of outmost importance is the precise characterization of the plastic deformation of the material in the vicinity of the crack tip. The plastic behaviour near the tip of stationary growing fatigue crack in engineering materials has been intensively studied using classical plasticity theory based on

Evaluation of the plastic zone in an elastic-plastic dissimilar materials joint
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1997Abstract In a dissimilar materials joint very high stresses develop near the free edge of the interface, even for low mechanical loading or after a homogeneous change of temperature, due to the different mechanical properties and different thermal expansion coefficients of the joined components.

Application of the (lanteigne) plastic zone correction in elastic-plastic fracture
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1979where K, is the stress intensity factor, a is a coefficient which depend on plane stress or plane strain conditions, a, is the yield strength and A,, Al.. . are given in terms of the coefficients ol, 02. . . of Westergaard[2] for a crack in an infinite elastic plate. A method for evaluation of yy for compact tensile specimens has been described and its

Plastic Hinge and Plastic Zone Seismic Analysis of Frames
2015The most common approach to perform seismic design of structures is the traditional one based on a linear elastic analysis assumption. On the other hand, nonlinear analysis methods due to their higher complexity and computational cost are mainly applied as a verification tool for the assessment of existing structures.

Size of the Plastic Zone Produced by Nanoscratching
Tribology Letters, 2017Nanoscratching of ductile materials creates plastic zones surrounding the scratch groove. We approximate the geometry of these zones by a semicylinder with its axis oriented along the scratch direction. The radius and the length of the cylinder, as well as the length of the dislocations in the network created quantify the plasticity generated.

Plastic-Zone Analysis of Frames
2018This chapter describes a refined plastic-zone analysis based on the finite element method. This plastic-zone finite element analysis is applicable to the in-plane analysis of framed structures of arbitrary geometry where the behavior of the members can be described adequately by beam-column theory.

On a Method of Defining the Plastic-Strain Zone
Strength of Materials, 2003We propose a new contactless method of defining the plastic-strain zone in tensile testing of structural materials. The method is based on measuring the dimensions of a thermal field appearing during deformation by means of a thermal imager.

Bulletins for applied mathematics, 1995
In this article the foundations of the limit load analysis and its applications in structural design are presented. For the easier comprehension of efficiency of the presented theory, the analysis is limited on a so-called elastic-perfectly plastic material as well as the simple examples.

The form of crack tip plastic zones
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1984Abstract The “radius” of the plastic zone at a crack tip is a parameter that has numerous applications in fracture mechanics. However, attention is drawn here to the confusion that is apparent, even in text-books, concerning the calculation of the plastic zone “radius” under plane strain conditions. The aim of this work has been to resolve this point,
