Plastic zone size in fatigue cracking

International Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 1996
Fatigue tests were performed on the specimens of Type 304 stainless steel and Inconel 718. To investigate the effects of specimen thickness on crack tip deformation and fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR), specimens of different thickness were used. To validate fatigue crack propagation in terms of plastic zone size, elastic plastic fracture mechanics ...

A plasticity analysis of anchorage zones

Magazine of Concrete Research, 1994
This Paper is the second of three on the behaviour of anchorage zones for prestressed concrete. Details are presented of a plasticity approach to the ultimate strength analysis of concrete prisms strip-loaded through rigid steel plates. Such a loading arrangement is assumed to represent adequately the transfer of force from tendon to concrete at the ...

Plastic Limit Analysis Using the Simplified Theory of Plastic Zones

Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 2021
Abstract The simplified theory of plastic zones (STPZ) was mainly developed to determine strain ranges and accumulated strains in the state of shakedown at cyclic loading between prescribed levels of loading. Kinematic hardening is an indispensable feature of the STPZ. The plastic limit load, however, is defined for monotonic loading and

Plastic zones and limit load

Bulletins for applied mathematics, 1995
In this article the foundations of the limit load analysis and its applications in structural design are presented. For the easier comprehension of efficiency of the presented theory, the analysis is limited on a so-called elastic-perfectly plastic material as well as the simple examples.

Fatigue Microcrack Plastic Zone Size Determination

Materials Science Forum, 2005
The microcrack tip plastic zone sizes in austenitic steels are measured using REM and interference microscope. It is shown that the plastic zone size varies from 300µm to 350µm. The importance of determining this parameter is discussed. Based on the analysis of the conventional continuum equations of linear-elastic approach a simple formula is derived ...

Plastic Hinge and Plastic Zone Seismic Analysis of Frames

2015
The most common approach to perform seismic design of structures is the traditional one based on a linear elastic analysis assumption. On the other hand, nonlinear analysis methods due to their higher complexity and computational cost are mainly applied as a verification tool for the assessment of existing structures.

Track treeing mechanism and plastic zone in solid Part 1: Initial development of plastic zone

Radiation Measurements, 2008
After neutron exposure and chemical etching in advance, latent tracks of recoil nucleon develop into pits on CR39 surface. During electrochemical etching, plastic zone is formed at top of pits. Some pits develop into tree cracks in the initial stage of plastic zone development.

Plastic-Zone Analysis of Frames

2018
This chapter describes a refined plastic-zone analysis based on the finite element method. This plastic-zone finite element analysis is applicable to the in-plane analysis of framed structures of arbitrary geometry where the behavior of the members can be described adequately by beam-column theory.

The Active Zone T-Bar—A Plasticity Module?

Journal of Neurogenetics, 2010
The synaptic active zone, the site where Ca(2+)-triggered fusion of synaptic vesicles takes place, is commonly associated with protein-rich, electron-dense cytomatrices. The molecular composition and functional role of active zones, especially in the context of vesicular exo- and endocytosis, are under intense investigation. Per se, Drosophila synapses,

Simplified Theory of Plastic Zones

2017
For a life prediction of structures subjected to variable loads, frequently encountered in mechanical and civil engineering, the cyclically accumulated deformation and the elastic-plastic strain ranges are required. The Simplified Theory of Plastic Zones (STPZ) is a direct method which provides the estimates of these and all other mechanical quantities
