Inclusion Effect on The Plastic Zone Size in Confined Plasticity

2008
In understanding fatigue properties of metallic alloys, of outmost importance is the precise characterization of the plastic deformation of the material in the vicinity of the crack tip. The plastic behaviour near the tip of stationary growing fatigue crack in engineering materials has been intensively studied using classical plasticity theory based on

The crack tip plastic zone

1982
According to the elastic stress field solutions discussed in the previous chapter a stress singularity exists at the tip of an elastic crack. In practice, materials (especially metals) tend to exhibit a yield stress, above which they deform plastically.

Application of the (lanteigne) plastic zone correction in elastic-plastic fracture

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1979
where K, is the stress intensity factor, a is a coefficient which depend on plane stress or plane strain conditions, a, is the yield strength and A,, Al.. . are given in terms of the coefficients ol, 02. . . of Westergaard[2] for a crack in an infinite elastic plate. A method for evaluation of yy for compact tensile specimens has been described and its

Plastic zone radius of crosslinked bismaleimide resins

Polymer International, 1995
AbstractThere appear to be very few literature estimates of the size or the shape of the plastic zone in polybismaleimides, whether calculated or observed experimentally. Bismaleimides are characteristically much more brittle on a macroscopic scale than other thermosetting resins and might be expected to have exceptionally small plastic zone radii.

Plastic zone boundary and Poisson’s ratio depending on plastic loosening

Physical Mesomechanics, 2013
A more accurate determination of the plastic zone boundary for plane strain and plane stress state is proposed. The plastic zone boundary is determined with regard to plastic loosening, given exact stress distribution and Schleicher yield criterion. The presence of mean normal stress in the Schleicher criterion ensures uniform expansion of the plastic ...

Deflexions of Elastic-Plastic Beams at Finite Spread of Plastic Zones

1981
Influence of plastic zones on deflexions of elastic plastic beams is studied. Methods for displacement evaluation and bounding are proposed employing the Betti reciprocity theorem when distorsion field due to plastic deformation appears in finite zones. Comparisons are made with experiments under monotonic as well as variable loading.
