The Multi-Functional Modelling Shear Lag Method for Accurate Calculation of Static Response and Accordion Effect of Improved Composite Box Girders

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2023
The composite box girder with corrugated web and steel bottom plate (CW-SBS) is a kind of improved steel-concrete structures. The design of CW-SBS box girders needs the accurate method to calculate the working response and accordion effect in ...

Effective axial strength of laterally strengthened RC pier heads with post‐tensioning method

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the structural performance enhancement of reinforced concrete (RC) pier heads laterally strengthened with unbonded post‐tensioning (PT) to accommodate increased design loads following a deck replacement of an existing railway bridge.

Experimental and analytical investigations on the effect of steel fibers on the crack behavior and strength of dapped‐end connections

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Reinforced concrete (RC) dapped‐end connections feature a sharp re‐entrant corner subjected to high stress concentrations, leading to wide cracks under service loads and potential durability issues such as reinforcement corrosion. Effective crack control is therefore essential in the design of new dapped‐end connections. Steel fiber reinforced

Numerical Investigation of Stress Intensity and Geometry Correction Factors in Welded Longitudinal Stiffener Details

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 49, Issue 7, Page 2654-2669, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The safe operation of aging steel railway bridges requires reliable fatigue assessment of welded structural details. Welded longitudinal stiffeners, while not directly loaded, influence structural stiffness and are susceptible to fatigue cracking at weld transitions.

Appearance Inspection‐Based Typical Damage Investigation of Concrete Curved Girder‐Type Bridges Subjected to Temperature and Vehicle Effect

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
Technical approach of the article. ABSTRACT This study focuses primarily on concrete curved girder‐type bridges, which are commonly used for urban roads and highways. Over the last two decades, practical experience in bridge engineering has shown that these bridges have unique mechanical and damage characteristics, unlike conventional straight bridges.

Utilizing Gusset Plates as Ductile Beam‐to‐Column Connections to Improve the Behavior of Steel Moment‐Resisting Frames

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
An innovative gusset plate connection, which acts as a rigid connection, was proposed and investigated parametrically and numerically. Also, the required equations to design the system were proposed. Results indicated that the gusset plate yields a ductile fuse while the beam and column remain elastic.

Model studies on plate girders

open access: yesThe Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design, 1983
Tests on eighteen small scale models which simulate the elastic and post-buckling behaviour of plate girders when subjected to shear loading are reported and discussed. The models were fabricated of steel and Araldite; the major aim was to assess whether small scale models can be employed to study shear buckling problems.

Anchorage System Contribution to Post‐Tensioned Bridge Collapse

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
This paper presents an experimental investigation of a 1960s precast post‐tensioned girder bridge in Trstena, Slovakia, revealing severe corrosion and anchorage degradation that ultimately led to its collapse. The findings highlight critical vulnerabilities in obsolete anchorage systems and emphasize the need for proactive assessment and maintenance of

Vertical‐Component Seismic Response and System Identification of a 52‐Story High‐Rise Building Using Earthquake Data

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 2, May 2026.
This study investigates the vertical dynamic response of a 52‐story high‐rise building in downtown Los Angeles using small‐magnitude earthquake data recorded by the Community Seismic Network. While seismic design traditionally emphasizes horizontal ground motion, vertical accelerations can have a significant impact on tall structures, leading to ...
