Phenotypic Shifts in Macrophages Within Advanced Atherosclerotic Plaques in Humans

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, EarlyView.
The transition from a non‐atherosclerotic to an atherosclerotic artery is associated with a shift in macrophage phenotypes. In the homeostatic environment of a non‐atherosclerotic artery, macrophages are predominantly anti‐inflammatory, anti‐atherogenic.

Senescent Endothelial Cells in Cerebral Microcirculation Are Key Drivers of Age‐Related Blood–Brain Barrier Disruption, Microvascular Rarefaction, and Neurovascular Coupling Impairment in Mice

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Senolytic therapy restores neurovascular function, blood–brain barrier integrity, and cognitive performance in aged mice by targeting endothelial senescence. Findings highlight that brain microvascular endothelial cells are highly vulnerable to aging‐induced senescence, and early intervention in middle age may be the most effective strategy to prevent ...

The role and implication of platelet‐rich plasma in male factor infertility: A systematic review of human studies

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Cryopreservation causes sperm injury and the success of surgical sperm retrieval (SSR) for azoospermic men is just over half depending on the cause of azoospermia. The role of autologous platelet‐rich plasma (PRP) in male factor infertility (MFI) is unclear. Objective To conduct a systematic review of the role of PRP in MFI focusing

Outcomes of type A aortic dissection in Australia

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Mortality outcomes for type A aortic dissection in Australia have improved over time, stabilizing at 18% over the last 5 years. Units performing fewer operations for type A dissection showed equivalent mortality outcomes to high‐volume units. Abstract Introduction Without surgical intervention, type A aortic dissection (TAAD) carries a high risk of ...

Comparison of Open Albumin Dialysis (OPAL) With Prometheus Fractionated Plasma Separation and Adsorption (FPSA) and Standard Medical Treatment for Acute‐On‐Chronic Liver Failure

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
The retrospective cohort study is the first to compare OPAL with Prometheus and hemodialysis for adult ACLF patients. Both extracorporeal liver support systems were comparably effective with regard to the reduction of bilirubin and creatinine levels surpassing the effects seen in hemodialysis. We recognized improvements in clinical scoring, such as the

Human hypoxia models in aerospace medicine: Potential applications for human pharmacological research

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aerospace medicine required controlled terrestrial models to investigate influences of altered atmosphere conditions, such as hypoxia, on human health and performance. These models could potentially be expanded to encompass disease conditions or treatment targets regulated through hypoxia or hypercapnia.

Echinococcus granulosus antigen B regulates T‐cell function through inhibition of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 in experimental immune thrombocytopenia

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
During the pathological process of immune thrombocytopenia, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is activated by JAKs, leading to the production of a large number of inflammatory cytokines and promoting the activation of Th1, Th2 and Th17 cells.
