Video_2_CTLs From Patients With Atherosclerosis Show Elevated Adhesiveness and Distinct Integrin Expression Patterns on 2D Substrates.AVI

open access: yes, 2022
Atherosclerosis is the major cause of cardiovascular disease that is characterized by plaque formation in the blood vessel wall. Atherosclerotic plaques represent sites of chronic inflammation with diverse cell content that is shifted toward the ...

Bench‐to‐Bedside Translation of Self‐Healing Colloidal Hydrogels as Next Generation Design of Flowable Hemostatic Matrix: From Preclinical Evaluation to Human Clinical Trials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Self‐healing materials represent a paradigm shift in designing functional biomedical devices for drug delivery, tissue regeneration, and 3D bioprinting. However, their clinical translation remains limited by challenges such as insufficient mechanical strength, potential cytotoxicity from chemical modifications, and complex activation ...

Platelet function in patients with meningococcal meningitis at the Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya

open access: yes, 2002
Fifty seven cases of mennigococcal meningitis based on a cerebrospinal fluid gram stain for gram negative diplococcus or positive culture were recruited. Fifty-seven controls matched for age and sex were also recruited.

Platelet function studies in Indian kala-azar

open access: yes, 1995
Platelet function studies were conducted on 25 parasitologically positive cases of Indian kala-azar and 25 age and sex matched healthy controls. Ninety-two per cent of patients had thrombocytopenia of variable degree; in 44% of patients, platelets were ...

Selective Inhibition of Integrin β3 Topology Provides a Safer Antithrombotic Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current integrin αIIbβ3 inhibitors effectively reduce thrombosis but also increase bleeding risk. During thrombosis, high shear blood flow can directly activate the integrin αIIbβ3 via a distinct topological change in the β3 transmembrane domain, independent of hemostatic platelet signaling.

Investigations into effects of 12-lipoxygenase and NADPH oxidase on platelet activity, and influences of dietary dark chocolate

open access: yes, 2012
PhDPlatelets play a pivotal role in both normal hemostasis and pathological bleeding and importantly also contribute to the development of atherothrombosis.

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

An oxidase road to platelet adhesion [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 2016
Platelet adhesion to collagen via collagen receptors is an important part of thrombosis. In this issue of Blood, Matsuura et al identify collagen receptors as previously unrecognized targets of the extracellular enzyme lysyl oxidase (LOX), the level of which is increased in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and other conditions associated with ...
