Platelet Count and Platelet Stickiness in Rats

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1971
SummaryIn rat, a transected tail vessel proved an adequate source of blood for platelet enumeration. When suspensions of rat blood in ammonium oxalate were rotated for 1 h a significant loss of platelets was observed. This platelet reduction rate (PRR), calculated as per cent of the pre-rotation count, showed individual constancy and inter-individual ...

Platelet Counts in Prematures

Pediatrics, 1969
The article1 in the October 1968 issue on "Platelets in Prematures" deserves more than a few remarks in the commentary relative to the incidence and hazards of thrombocytopenia. The article is good in that it serves as a guideline relative to the range in platelet levels among premature infants, but the reader should not accept this simply as the ...

Platelet and Leukocyte Counts in Pregnancy

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1979
Platelets and leukocytes in venous blood were counted with automated methodology in 23 women studied longitudinally throughout pregnancy and at six weeks after delivery. The average platelet count declined monotonically in a manner consistent with the gestational increase in blood volume.

The Platelet Count and Mean Platelet Volume

British Journal of Haematology, 1981
Summary. The Coulter Model S‐Plus Counter provides a measure of the platelet count and the mean platelet volume (MPV). An analysis of 5000 unselected blood specimens showed an inverse relationship between the number of circulating platelets and their MPV.

Metoprolol and the Peripheral Platelet Count

Acta Haematologica, 1977
An acute oral administration of 50 mg metoprolol (a selective beta-1-receptor antagonist) to 18 healthy volunteers induced a significant increase in the peripheral platelet concentration lasting more than 4 h. It is suggested that this increment in the platelet count originates from the exchangeable splenic platelet pool.

The origin of platelet count and volume

Clinical Physics and Physiological Measurement, 1984
Platelet count and volume were measured in man (n = 51) and rat (n = 9). Bone marrow megakaryocyte nuclear and megakaryocyte planimetric areas were measured in man (n = 11) and rat (n = 9). Megakaryocyte cytoplasmic volumes were computed from the planimetric areas. Rat had a significantly higher (p less than 0.001) mean megakaryocyte cytoplasmic volume

Effect of heparin on platelet count and platelet aggregation

American Journal of Hematology, 1987
AbstractThe in vitro effect of heparin on platelet aggregation was studied in three groups: in 26 subjects recently treated with heparin, in 18 subjects on maintenance hemodialysis, and in 20 normal controls. With the aid of Technicon H6000, platelet counts and platelet aggregations were compared in whole blood samples collected in ethylenedi ...

Preeclampsia Effect on Platelet Count

American Journal of Perinatology, 1992
Thrombocytopenia is well recognized when preeclampsia is complicated by the hemolysis, elevated liver tests, low platelet count (HELLP) syndrome. We studied the effect of preeclampsia on the platelets of women whose platelet count and liver function were within normal range.

Platelet count and platelet size in males and females

Scandinavian Journal of Haematology, 1985
The platelet count of healthy males was compared to that of healthy females. A higher platelet count in women was confirmed. A similar inverse non‐linear relationship between the platelet count and the mean platelet volume (MPV) was found in the two sexes.

The proficiency testing of platelet counting

Transfusion Medicine Reviews, 1995
Ontario's laboratory professionals have shown that they are able to successfully operate a proficiency testing program by making use of volunteers. The program serves and assists the laboratory directors in their own quality assurance program. The two prime reasons for the success of LPTP are that it is not seen by the professions to be regulatory and ...
